Publisher's Summary

The turning point for the entire Star Wars saga is at hand.

After years of civil war, the Separatists have battered the already faltering Republic nearly to the point of collapse. On Coruscant, the Senate watches anxiously as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine aggressively strips away more and more constitutional liberties in the name of safeguarding the Republic. Yoda, Mace Windu, and their fellow Masters grapple with the Chancellor's disturbing move to assume control of the Jedi Council. And Anakin Skywalker, the prophesied Chosen One, destined to bring balance to the Force, is increasingly consumed by his fear that his secret love, Senator Padme Amidala, will die.

As the combat escalates across the galaxy, the stage is set for an explosive endgame: Obi-Wan undertakes a perilous mission to destroy the dreaded Separatist military leader General Grievous. Palpatine, eager to secure even greater control, subtly influences public opinion to turn against the Jedi. And a conflicted Anakin, tormented by unspeakable visions, edges dangerously closer to the brink of a galaxy-shaping decision. It remains only for Darth Sidious, whose shadow looms ever larger, to strike the final staggering blow against the Republic...and to ordain a fearsome new Sith Lord: Darth Vader.

Critic Reviews

"Stover fills in the blanks regarding one of cinema's most fascinating villains with respect and relish, providing answers to such questions as why Vader looked so weird and how he became Luke's dad. This is the perfect companion to the blockbuster film." (Publishers Weekly)

I thought I knew the whole story.....

I thought I knew the whole story.....but Matthew Stover's novelization of SITH is rich in detail, subtext and prose. This adaptation of the film is so much more closer to the perfect version of this modern tragedy. Make no mistake, EPISODE III is a tragedy.
What I truly loved the most about this rendition were the various instances of the author describing how a particular character was feeling or thinking. For example, " This is what it's like to be Annakin Skywalker for now..." I absolutely LOVED this style of describing the character's inner thought process.
I really enjoyed this novel and have counted it as one of the top SW stories in my collection. if you have not heard the story and are thinking of buying this audio book, waste no more time and purchase it. And you might have already seen the film, but without hearing this version: you truly don't know the whole story!!!!

Absolutely entertaining!

Would you consider the audio edition of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith to be better than the print version?

I have not read the printed version, but I love the audiobooks, especially Star Wars books read by Jonathan Davis. His readings are compelling and the sound effects make it better than just reading and evn watching the movie.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Anakin Skywalker is my favorite character. I love his fall to the darkside. What can seem baffling in the movies, as they don't have internal dialogue, is compelling and rich in the novel and audiobook. It's completely understandable and relateable here. The dragon that lives in his heart, oh my...

Which scene was your favorite?

The slaughter of the Separatists was my favorite scene. It was so graphic and it has my favorite image of Anakin, where he goes to slaughter the last remaining Sep, he gets to the doorway, and turns to look back, just his head, cloaked in darkness, and his eyes, those sith eyes. The wanton killing of the Seps and the way he just sliced and diced with no thought. Sep: "Lord Sidious promised us a handsome reward!"
Vader: "You don't find me handsome?"

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, most definitely. I listen to most Star Wars books this way. I take it all in all at once. I am compulsive that way, and besides, this book was just that good. I've listened to it many times.

Any additional comments?

If you thought the movie was just o.k. or bad, or even if you loved it, listen to this book. You will be most glad you did. Especially if you are a darksider or a Sith Lord in your own right.

Everything the movie should have been!

This audiobook was not only a joy to listen to but the novelization fill in many questions, gives depth to shallow characters (like Mace Windu) and shows events from several perspectives.

BEST of all, it makes sense of Anakin's turn to the Darkside- and shows exactly how Palpaltine had played everyone for fools for decades.

Essential for Star Wars fans!

A Star Wars Must Read...

What the movie should have been all along. I started the book and couldn't put it down. Matthew Stover filled in the answers that the movie left without remedy. this is a "must read" for every Star Wars fan!

Amazing!

Loved the movie but this is the best novelization I've ever read. So much insight and background that makes the movie even better. Wonderfully written. And Mr. Davis does such fine work with the voices. A must read for Star Wars fans.

This book was just as great as the prior books in the series. I cannot wait until I can read the rest of the books. The voices were great and pace at which it was read was just perfect. A must read for all Star Wars fans.

Awesome sound effects to go with a great reading.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If they like Star Wars, then yes. In a heartbeat. The story itself is good, and the audiobook is superbly read.

What did you like best about this story?

I like how the author fixed some of the movie's problems. His prose is a bit flowery at times, but I think it fits the epic feel of Star Wars. All novelizations should be this good.

What does Jonathan Davis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Davis tells the story wonderfully, doing everything one would expect from a first-class reader. On top of that, the audiobook includes Star Wars theme music, sounds for blasters, lightsabers, and spaceship fights, along with machine-like enhancements for the voices of robotic characters (C-3PO, Grievous). I think they even brought in other voice actors for supporting roles. As far as readings go, this is the best one I've ever listened to.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I very much liked the scene where Palpatine revealed himself to Anakin.

Probably the best Star Wars book out there

I've read Star Wars books, some are ok, some outright bad, some are excellent. This novelization of Episode 3 is SPECTACULAR!!! I don't say that lightly. It really is. This is what a movie novelization should be. It's the story on the screen, but with much more detail into character, explanations and even 'scenes' that probably ended up on the cutting room floor. Matthew Stover's prose is almost lyrical in nature. The fluidity of how he presents character's thoughts & motivations, action is remarkable. The richness of detail and exposition makes this a novel that you want to read again & again. Overwhelmingly people deem this not only the best of the movie novelizations, but one of the best if not the best Star Wars book out there. Jonathan Davis' narration is a dream. Character voices & their nuances are so distinct, it comes across as a multi person cast. Paired with well done and place special effects & music, Revenge of the Sith is a fantastic listening experience....whether you're into Star Wars or not. Every aspect has been hit out of the park on this one.
