About this listen

The chilling tale of the undead in a galaxy far, far away.

“This is the Star Wars of every horror fan’s dreams—gory, funny, and brimming with a blood-spattered cast of swashbucklers and space-zombies.”—Seth Grahame-Smith, author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

When the Imperial prison barge Purge—temporary home to five hundred of the galaxy’s most ruthless killers, Rebels, scoundrels, and thieves—breaks down in a distant part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back—bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours, nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine.

And death is only the beginning.

The Purge’s half-dozen survivors will do whatever it takes to stay alive. But nothing can prepare them for what lies waiting aboard the Star Destroyer. For the dead are rising: soulless, unstoppable, and unspeakably hungry.©2009 Joe Schreiber; (P)2009 Random House

Critic Reviews

“Brilliant . . . This book combines two of my favorite things on earth: the Star Wars universe and the undead.”—Tommy Wirkola, director of Dead Snow

The voice performance was excellent and was I was constantly impressed that it was all being voiced by one guy. I thought in some parts the character coughing and the gross out sounds was a bit over done, but thats just a personal preference probably. The repeated scream of the chapter titles was spooky the first time, but it just sounded like Morty screaming in the distance after that so it was more funny than spooky. Also the screaming was scary at first, but the same high pitched scream got a bit repetitive and it sounded like Morty again.
Spoiler: I was enjoying it more before a certain well known hero showed up which seemed to take my seriousness for the story away and my enjoyment started to decrease. I don't hate that character, it's just it felt somewhat goofy to me.

Death troopers was a good one-off in the Star Wars EU that gives a well-paced tale of horror set in a universe that tend to focuses more on the fantastical and the political.
