About this listen

One moment a man sits on a suburban hill, gazing curiously at the stars. The next, he is whirling through the firmament, and perhaps the most remarkable of all science fiction journeys has begun. Even Stapledon's other great work, Last and First Men pales in ambition next to Star Maker which presents nothing less than an entire imagined history of life in the universe, encompassing billions of years.

Ahead of its time, incredibly imaginative. What it lacks in literary skill (frequently dipping into passive voice and tracts of summary) and cultural sensitivity (Eurocentric to the core) it makes up for with vast scope and poetic brilliance.

Stunning precognition of war and cosmological discoveries

The end is pure fiction. Sure obviously it's science fiction. But there is zero science and all fiction by the end...

Turns into pure fiction...

The scope of this book is unprecedented, from the birth of the cosmos's to the end of creation, it is both a Scifi writers text book and a philosophical prose. I have read/ listened to this book many times and will do so many more. Olaf Stapledon is a criminally underrated mind of the 20th century.

Scifi in it's purest form

Reads less like a story and more like an imagined history, albeit a repetitive one. An interesting vision of the universe.

Struggled to finish
