Publisher's Summary

I’ve done a lot of stupid stuff in my life. But sleeping with my best friend tops the list.

Annabel and I have been close since college. When I left school to play pro football, she was there. While I collected Super Bowl rings and cars worth more than the house I grew up in — she was there.

I always assumed we’d end up together. Everyone did.

But by the time I retired from football, Bel was married. I thought I’d missed my shot at love.

So I buried myself in my new job as CEO of Blue Mountain Farm, a five-star resort my family and I built in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. It seems like a good place to be alone with the secret I have to keep from her.

Now Bel is a divorced single mom, struggling to raise her daughter on her own — and it’s my turn to be there for her.

So I invite her and the baby up to the resort for some much needed R&R.

Then, in a moment of bonfire-and-bourbon induced weakness, I kiss her.

And the fallout could ruin everything.

Southern Seducer is a full length, standalone small town novel. It is the first book in the all new North Carolina Highland series.

Simply Extraordinary

Southern Seducer is so much more than contemporary romance! The author tells a beautiful love story of 2 friends becoming each other’s everything after 15 years of friendship. “What if you making out with Annabel is just your friendship blossoming into something it was always meant to become?” While telling the story of Beau and Annabel, Jessica Peterson shares, via the heroine, her own intimate journey and struggle with postpartum depression. Through sharing of her vulnerabilities, she provides help and a voice to so many going through similar experience. And, as if tackling one taboo wasn’t enough, Ms. Peterson bring to light yet another topic, Traumatic Brain Injuries/CTE associates with some of our most beloved sports and the athletes we adore. She has managed to seamlessly weave a beautiful love story around two incredibly important, often silent, issues and give her literary couple a powerful narrative of self realization, care, family dynamics, support and importance, overcoming obstacles (whether real or perceived) and above all - finding a way to each other through it all. Annabel’s and Beau’s story plays out in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, the scenery is vividly painted by the author and you have no choice but to fall in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains. The narration by Jason Clark and Virginia Rose is phenomenal, they bring Beau and Annabel lo life in the most engaging way. I felt completely immersed in the story! I tremendously enjoyed and recommend Southern Seducer - it is an extraordinary book!

I rated this book 5 stars when I read it, wishing I could give it more. Now, after listening to it, it definitely deserves 10 stars! Jessica Peterson tackles 2 huge, rarely talked about, diagnosis and she does it beautifully. Jason Clarke and Virginia Rose did an excellent job bringing Jessica’s words to life.

Wonderful Start to the New Series!

I was so excited to start this and have to say it did not disappoint! Jessica Peterson knows how to write a book that keeps you saying "one more chapter and then I'll go to sleep!" I just could not stop listening. This story dealt with some emotional subjects...TBI and PPD, but it was done with such care, that it made the story so much deeper. Virginia Rose and Jason Clarke truly brought it to life. I can't wait for book 2. I can see that there will be some fun coming up for this family.

Real characters, real issues, and real situations

Jessica Peterson is one of my favorite authors because she delivers such real romance. Real characters, real issues, and real situations. Bel and Beau are authentic and their deep friendship is #goals. The author deals with two serious issues with grace and dignity. And let me just say I am here for this new series focusing on Beau's family! I know it's going to be such a treat. Jason Clark and Virginia Rose gave fantastic performances and were so enjoyable- they brought the story to life so well.

WOW! Just WOW!

I wasn't sure going in how I'd like this story. The topics seemed really heavy to me and I wasn't sure about a romance stemming from these issues, but Ms. Peterson blew me away with this story! WOW! Beau and Anabel's story is a friends to lovers story that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for Beau to come around. These two are everything a happy couple should be and yet there is so much darkness in their world. Ms. Peterson did an amazing job telling their story and the very complicated medical issues they were dealing with and showed us that there is a happy ending out there for everyone. You just have to have the courage to take it. None of us know when our time is up and we have to hold on to the ones we love. This was a great story and what a way to kick off a new series! Loved it! The narrators had me choking up time and time again. They did an amazing job telling this story.

Bittersweet Romance

So I will start out by saying I didn't read the blurb of this book. With the title of Southern Seducer you think you have an idea of what the book is about. Well let me tell you how wrong I was. This book was quite bitter sweet. It is about good friends that decide to become lovers and fall in love and the struggles of motherhood with an infant and... Well I can't tell you what else. That is the surprise that threw me for a loop. What I loved about this book is that it addressed real life problems like post-pardum depression and the struggles that mothers often face but no one talks about. It also deals with hot button issues and illness in a real way. It was really bitter sweet for me. I read to escape reality and this book felt all too real. However, it is far removed from my own life and circumstances so that made it easier to read and get involved with the characters and feel a great empathy for them without feeling overwhelmed by the emotions of their circumstances. This is truly an adult novel dealing with real world situations and yet and still it is a love story with all that a romance should have. The narration was excellent and really brought this book alive and made it so much more meaningful as you get to know these characters and their lives. Overall this was a bittersweet and engaging listen.

Raw, Gritty, Real and Beautiful! A Must Listen!

Southern Seducer is a book I wish I listened to 3 years ago when I was a new mom. It validates so many of my own thoughts and feelings and those of friends as well. Annabel is a single mother who is struggling with Postpartum Depression (PPD), Trying to do all the things that women are told they should do as new moms. Completely unrealistic expectation that society pushes on women. Beau is Annabel’s best friend since college, and a former pro football player who is suffering from the residual effects of one too many tackles. Another topic that is a reality of so many former athletes that does not get discussed often enough. This story is raw, gritty real. The beautiful and the ugly and the sweet and the painful. It doesn’t paint everything with a pretty brush the way so many romance novels do. Don’t get me wrong, I love a book where women have 12 Os in and the guy can go 6 rounds in 2 hours. But reality is that is not how the human body works and after you deliver a baby your body doesn’t work the same way. First postpartum sex scene was so realistic. I was able to relate intimately with all of her insecurities. It took time for her to get her head in the game, she was worried about her body, her milk spraying everywhere, and Beau was so tender and patient with her. He told her how beautiful and strong she was said exactly the right thing, “Be Selfish”. Women forget we are allowed to take for ourselves every once in a while. Virginia Rose was the perfect Annabel, soulful and sad, but also hopeful and the growth and change that Annabel goes through was not only seen through the writing but also the performance. It is clear from this book that Jessica Peterson knew this topic intimately, either from personal experience or extensive research. But her depiction of postpartum life was spot on. Beau has given up with himself due to his diagnosis, and while he helps Annabel get through a difficult time, she also helps him. Their friendship is enviable, and Jason Clarke gave one of the best performances i have ever heard from him. He is all emotional and gravely. I want to hug him when Beau expresses his deep feelings. Jason Clarke sounds different than in other books, like this is a completely unique character to his other narrations and I absolutely loved it. I highly recommend Southern Seducer it is a beautiful story and performed to perfection. I received a code for this book and voluntarily give my honest review.

Not her best work IMHO

I’ve have read almost everything that she has written and was so excited for this one. Didn’t think twice about using a credit but dang.. I just couldn’t get into it. Not to make lite of postpartum because I am a mother and understand but it was just too much. It was so hard to go from one mood to the next with the leading lady that she was starting to become annoying this making it hard to relate. Didn’t even make it past the first kiss. Just had to move on.

Lovely and poignant

Jessica Peterson took a very heavy yet common topic (depression) and addressed it with grace, understanding, and compassion. Although this theme runs throughout the book and is very much the driving force behind the story, the characters are beautifully developed, the love story is front and center, and the setting is deliciously detailed to take you away to this amazing place, that you aren’t dragged down by the reality of the struggle. Jason Clarke and Virginia Rose were a perfect pairing and brought the depth and emotion that can only be found with brilliant narration. Well done.

Loved the narration

Southern Seducer is book 1 in the new North Carolina Highlands series. This is Annabel and Beau story and it was an emotional tale as the author discussed Postpartum Depression and general depression. The story was raw, honest and real as Jessica gives us an excellent description of the feeling and emotions of those suffering from depression. Both Beau and Belle were likable relatable characters who brought out the best in each other. This was a friends to lovers romance and a great start to the series. The audiobook was narrated by Jason Clarke and Virginia Rose. They did an excellent job with the characters and brought out the emotions in the story. They brought the story to life and it was a pleasure listening to them narrate this novel.

Friends to lovers and so much more!

Jessica Peterson is fast becoming one of my favorite listens! She has a style that is easy to listen to yet yields such true to life stories. This first book in her North Carolina Highlands story feature best friends Beau and Bel. These two have been tight since college, and through the years have shared everything from failures to successes. Now life has taken a turn for Bel and she needs to get away. She and her new daughter are off to see Beau at his resort and things are just not going as planned. Suffering from postpartum depression, she is trying to get her life back on track and who better to do it with than Beau. And our love story begins. Friends to lovers, But secrets are held, and Beau's is a beauty. When he reveals it, will Bel's feelings change? And why does he keep pushing her away? Peterson weaves a beautiful love story around these two very broken people. She lets us experience the pain and uncertainty of depression and Chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a brain injury Beau has from playing football. Each is dealt with compassion, yet is not sugar coated which I love. It's real, it's gritty and their love is beautiful. Narrated by the talented team of Jason Clarke and Virginia Rose, we are exposed to superb story telling. These two become Beau and Bel, and I was completed captivated with their performance. Clarke's accent fits Beau to a "t" and Rose uses that spunky, vulnerability to create Bel. A better casting could not have been made for this story.

4.25 Stars

I've listened to this authors Charleston Heat series and I adore her writing. The small town feel, the family, it's all here in her new North Carolina Highlands series and even though this is only book one, I can assure you I'm as hooked on this series as I was on the last. Jason Clarke and Virginia Rose were incredible as college friends turned lovers Beau and Bel. There's a lot of real talk in this from PPD to single mom struggles. I really admired that because it often gets glossed over, even in this day and age. I volunteered to listen and review a complimentary copy of this and all opinions are my own.

Wonderful Story & Narration🎧 Gripping & Heartfelt!

This is an awesome friends to lovers romance, it is beautifully written, the book grabbed my attention right from the start and held it straight to the end. The characters and storylines are realistic and easy to relate to, Jessica Peterson does an awesome job covering some real life issues in this book, depression and PTSD, I just loved how she kept it all real. Annabel “Bel” Rhodes and John Riley “Beau” Beauregard met in college at a football party. The two just clicked and soon became friends, BTW, I loved how they first wind up communicating. He went on to play pro-football and she continued on with her education, the two remained in touch the entire time. Years later, Annabel has a great career and wanting more, most specifically a baby she decides to have one on her own. But she soon realizes it is not so easy, making it worse she suffers from postpartum. Still in touch with Beau, who is now retired working with his family who converted their farm into an upscale resort, Blue Mountain Farm. Beau suggests that she and her daughter come for a visit, her Mom too. OMG, I loved these two together, there is a great chemistry between them and an easy friendship. But Bel is not the only one with issues, Beau has his own and thinking he is doing everyone a favor pushes them away. I loved how everything plays out in this book, the story is beautifully plotted with plenty of drama, heartfelt and emotional moments, heartbreaking one and a wonderful friends to lovers romance. Jessica Peterson, thank you for this wonderful story and the emotional rollercoaster ride. 🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Jason Clarke and Virginia Rose are the perfect cast to bring the characters and their story to life. They do an awesome job portraying the characters giving each their own voice and personality. Jason Clarke’s Beau sounded just as I pictured him to sound the same with Virginia Rose’s Annabel. Both were great playing the secondary characters as well. You could hear how much heart they put into their work and they captured the character’s emotions, their passion and vulnerabilities and projected them into their performance. Both are talented and entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another wonderful listen🎧
