Publisher's Summary

A gripping literary horror novel about the death of a haunted town

On winter solstice, the birds disappeared, and the mist arrived.

The inhabitants of Nebulah quickly learn not to venture out after dark. But it is hard to stay indoors: Cabin fever sets in, and the mist can be beguiling too.

Eventually only six remain. Like the rest of the townspeople, Pete has nowhere else to go. After he rescues a stranded psychic from a terrible fate, he’s given a warning: He will be dead by solstice unless he leaves town - soon.

👎The Edits Are HORRIBLE & A LOT🤬

I thought the story was going pretty good (very hard to get into the story though...VERY HARD) & the narrator was great....here comes the BUT....

The editing IS JUST GOD AWFUL!!

This book has more edits then well over 100 books I've listened to....EVER!!
You can tell the difference in the original recording and the edited parts, which tend to be every freaking 15 minutes😂
No kidding either!
There are many parts too, where the last word at the end of a sentence gets cut COMPLETELY off as if he didn't finish the last word in that sentence.

They OBVIOUSLY did NOT use either, the same mic or program to re-record mistakes. This issue made it VERY EASY to HEAR the difference and it interrupts the flow of the story EVERYTIME!!
It made it extremely annoying & distracting!

The narrator did great with his voice acting & I loved his accent.
I can't blame the narrator for all the edits, even if he is the one that caused them...because if a book is edited correctly you should NOT hear the added edited parts....CLEARLY!
With that being said, I gave the narrator 5 stars...he deserves it a the very least.

Absolutely the worst editing EVER!!

I do recommend David Linski as a narrator. 👍
I recommend the story, (here comes the but again) BUT...DON'T GET THIS AUDIBLE version!!👎

The Good, The Bad, and Overall...

The Good: Outstanding character development and interactions. Well rounded characters with quirks and personalities, and not 2 dimensional - non paper thin. Interesting premise that draws you into the story.

The Bad: This is basically a 1980's horror flick. The mist/fog is never explained, lots of reporters and would be book authors plague the remaining inhabitants - though they never come to investigate the phenomena on their own, no one outside of the town believes anything is amidst (not a mist) and the locals never think to make recordings of the voices or record video on their phones. The title is based upon a psychic prediction that never really accomplishes anything. When the author needs to pluck the empathy heart strings she kills a dog. Standard 1980's movie ending - everything is fine and happy music plays to let you know it is all over; until Da! Da! Daaaaa!

Overall: It's a very unsatisfying story. No closure, rules that apply throughout the story do not apply at the end. Made more so by the outstanding (really) character development. This could have been epic. Free on Audible Plus... so... there's that.

Major hits and some bad misses

First 2/3 of this book is well written and mostly a setup for the characters but rite as it feels like its really into its groove the writer seemed to fall into that very predictable trap of rushing the ending. i would have given it 4 stars up until the last few pages. I felt it got lazy and to tidy of an ending which ironically caused more questions than answers, which will never be answered because of the randomness of the answers that need to be answered.
again first 2/3 rds of the book 9 out of 10 last 1/3 3 out of 10

Really enjoyed this!

Narrator was top notch, the story was gripping and, in a couple of places, almost unbearably tense.
Will look fir more by this author - I listened to it in two sittings.

Best book I've read ALL YEAR

I am an avid reader of horror, thriller, sci-fi, let me tell you, this book had me on the edge of my seat.
I would think about it as I went along with my day.
I couldn't wait for the drive home from work, for that is when I listen primarily. I highly, unequivocally recommend this book. the narrator emoted every spine tingling minute, with absolute ease. if I could give 10 stars I would..enjoy!

Very boring

I had high hopes for this book, but there was really no suspense. It just kept droning on. The narrator was good, the characters were likeable. I appreciated the absence of extreme gore, sex, or language. But that didnt save this sleeper. It does feel too close to Stephen King's The Mist to be considered as a quality work. I would like to see more from this author if they could work on the plot a bit more and add some drama.

A really engrossing tale from an author I’d life to see more from

This story bad echoes of some of the horror greats but also showed enough of the author, particularly their wonderful character development. The story is well paced and the characters are believable as well. When I started this yesterday I didn’t put it down ((or take it out of my ears) until it was finished.
My only knock on the book comes w the ending, which felt a bit off and rushed for me compared to the rest. I admit though that this seemed to be less about the book and more about the medium I chose - audio vs reading - that lended itself to that feeling. If I was reading it I’m sure I would have picked up on some things a bit faster but with audio I had to go back to review. Overall a wonderful book.

FINE NARRATION WASNT ABLE TO SAVE THIS WEAK STORY

I had to do other things while listening to this because it was so slow & dragged out just to make the book longer. I liked the characters & this could have been a great story if it was three or four hours shorter. It was suspenseful at times but I never really knew what was going on in that town. I was happy when it ended. I listen to about four full length books a week & usually I don’t want them to end. This one was different. Should have been a nice short novella. We wouldn’t have missed much.

Soon

This is one of the best horror novels I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing and for that I thank you. There’s no sex no ugliness no brutal descriptive animal death just environmental horror at its finest and I utterly adore it. Thank you for renewing my love of the horror genre.

soon

more a human drama than an outright horror story. The characters are well drawn but the story is familiar. If you like the author who provides the cover quote you will probably get something out of this
