Publisher's Summary

Every story is true; some of them actually happened. Song of the Beloved is a provocative retelling of the Jesus story from the perspective of Mary Magdalene.

After 14 years of suffering with the debilitating effects of trauma, Mary is healed by Jesus. She then becomes his most enthusiastic and devoted disciple, later becoming his companion, co-minister, beloved, and wife. Designated the Magdalene, Mary is appointed to carry on Jesus’ ministry after his death.

A great work of fiction, inspired by scripture, historical documents, and ancient sacred texts, Song of the Beloved provides nourishment and inspiration for those in search of a relevant Christianity - with Jesus and Mary as two who lived the fullness of the human experience while teaching us how to love.

Fascinating depiction of the Magdalene's journey

The narration was beautifully crafted. I felt been transported back into the times of Magdalene and witness all the occurings from the outside. There were moments when I felt HER pain, HER confusion and HER dispair which is still so relatable to us women of the 21st century. Thank you for this beautiful creation Lauri.

Beautiful

I feel right in the midst of Jesus and Mary Magdalene as they live out God's unconditional love and share it with whoever crosses their path

a labour of Love

An empathetically read, thoughtful re-imagining of the tale of one of history's most significant women. Lauri brings her excellent Scriptural knowledge and clear understanding of 1st C Judaism together with a more radical and contemporary interpretation of Jesus' message based on extra Biblical material. She pits Mary as the sibling of Lazarus and Martha, from a strict Jewish home, and this section has a long backstory style telling. I was looking for the first real scene, although I see why you needed the back story to get to that scene. The passion section was quite gruelling. The most surprising part was how she portrays some well known disciples. I was most interested in how they responded to Jesus after his departure, and the different prongs that became the Christian church, and how their responses affected the political situation. She also explains the other women at the tomb and has them as central people in this Bethany-based teaching centre. Clearly told, in both senses, with understanding and passion, not just as a story to entertain - although it does - or even as devotion; but Lauri clearly wants us to share this message at this very timely hour.
