Sonate in Urlauten ist ein dadaistisches Lautgedicht, das zwischen 1923 und 1932 in verschiedenen Versionen verfasst wurde. Hier werden Worte wie z.B. „Dresden“ als „Drrrr…“ abgekürzt oder verdreht, z.B. Arb (von Hans Arb) zu „Bra“. Viele Abkürzungen stammen von Aufschriften auf Stellwerkhäuschen. Die meisten Laute sind aber frei erfunden.
Das Vorwort mit Erklärungen wird von Gerhard Rühm verfasst und gesprochen. Kurt Schwitters (18871948) war ein deutscher Künstler, Maler, Dichter, Raumkünstler und Werbegrafiker. Er zählt Schwitters zu den einflussreichsten Künstlern des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts.
