Publisher's Summary

Roger Stringer grew up in rural Mississippi, hunting and eating everything from deer to rabbits. When he had two sons, Zac and Justin, he gave them guns and took them to the woods as well. Then one day when the boys were home alone, he got a call from Zac that Justin had been shot.

What follows is an intimate and gripping memoir about the shooting’s aftermath. The story moves between the perspectives of Roger and Zac as they take us through their journey of betrayal, redemption, and ultimately confrontation with a company that had kept its corruption a secret for decades.

True and very sad

We are so quick to judge, listening to this father may his soul bare was enlightening and devastating his loss was so immense and those with the money and power didn’t give a damn. This family should hold their head up high and yes so should this young man, tell the world and watch the change created by your tragedy and loss but also you wisdom in forgiveness and overcoming

A lesson

What a beautiful lesson to learn from this book. Seeking the truth is one of the greatest gifts to give our fractured society.

Children and guns don’t mix!

As this story began, and we are told of the fathers love of guns and hunting, I thought this was going to be a devastating accident between the father and his two sons while out hunting in the woods.
Nope!
The father gives both his children guns, teaches them all about gun safety - BUT - he seems to forget they are still kids!! So when they are alone in the house with access to both the guns AND the ammunition, they have a stupid argument and suddenly one is dead, shot by the other!!
Yes, there was a faulty mechanism, but the guns should NEVER have been accessible to the kids!!
The whole account is frustrating, with the ‘poor me’ attitude by the shooter. His brother is dead for gods sake.
We hear nothing of their Mum. I would like to know how she is.
Father and son just don’t get it at all!
