Nach dem Studium der Germanistik und Anglistik in München und in Guildford/England absolvierte Wostry eine Ausbildung als Schauspieler und Sprecher. Seit den 1980er Jahren ist er vorwiegend für den Bayerischen Rundfunk in Hörfunk und Fernsehen tätig. Mit seiner Stimme und seinen Regieanweisungen lässt er dort vor allem Dokumentationen sowie Kunst- und Kulturberichte lebendig werden.
