Story
In Desert Storm, Major Daren Mace made a fateful decision to go against orders. To abort a secret mission that was, in his judgment, ill advised. His actions landed him in military exile. Now Mace has moved on to the Air Force Reserves. There's a new US president. It's a new era, and a new war is escalating along the Ukraine border. Pathetic
The narration was pathetic, like a cartoon - if this is what "abridged" means then I will never read another.
Perhaps there is an unabridged version as I have read other Dale Brown works and quite enjoyed them.

Not what I expected
Having read several of Brown's novels, I figured I couldn't mill with this book. How wrong I was. Compared to his other stories, captivating and exciting, Brown misfired on this one. Too much space was taken up by useless details that had nothing to do with the story, and the story itself was weak, and dare I say, Boring.
The audio was not even as good as the book. It was slow and even made the story worse for the tempo. Oh, then the character voices. Russians, Chinese, Filipino, and American voices were terrible cliches of what they could have been. They all made me think of the French soldier in The Holy Grail, who, when asked if he was French, replied "Of course I am French! Why do you think I am speaking with this outrageous accent?!"
If you actually buy and listen to this book, you have the patience and understanding of a saint.

This is an abridged version
I have thirty seven Dale Brown books in my library. The last time that I bought titles, (some were not previously available), there were four that were abridged. None of the previously purchased titles were. I didn't realize that abridged versions were even sold by Audible, so, needless to say, I didn't look to see if the new titles were. I am very disappointed. The quality of the production on this particular one is very bad. The reader continuously varies from a loud voice to a whisper. I normally listen to audible while driving on business trips. I found it very hard to drive while listening to this title because of the variation in volume and the fact that, with these abridged versions you have to really concentrate on what is being read because the storyline is so cut up.

This Review Needs a Title...So, I
An abridged version that lasted barely two hours. It was so tactical that it would have made a good CONOPS vignette for a new weapon system -- 25 years ago. LtCol McLanahan fights a B2 with more fantastic capabilities than a 50 plane gorilla strike in a SE Pacific scenario.

Sky flip
The plot is typical Dale Brown . The story kept me on The edge and I couldn't stop listening. The commentator although good, his voice impressions of American characters is not very good. His voice stereotypes the Americans as good ole boys and in some cases high string twits.

Abridging really detracted from the story
I've read the book and they have cut so much from it that you lose too much of the plot.
Read the book or find it unabridged somewhere.

Ruined
A good book, but a terrible audio-book. Ruined by a clumsy and comical narrator. Awful accents, mumbled parts and stereotypical voices poorly thought about.
