Jørn Riel (f. 1931) kom første gang til Grønland som navigatør og telegrafist med Lauge Kochs Grønlandsekspedition i 1951-53 og var de næste ti år udstationeret i Nordøstgrønland.

Han er internationalt anerkendt for sit store forfatterskab, som rummer både romaner, skrøner, rejseskildringer og børnebøger. Han har bl.a. modtaget De Gyldne Laurbær i 1995, Det Danske Akademis Store Pris i 2010 og Otto B. Lindhardt-prisen i 2014.
