Publisher's Summary

From the international number one best seller comes the most clever and gripping thriller of 2019.

It's June 2008 and 21-year-old Adam Lattimer vanishes, presumed dead. The strain of his disappearance breaks his already fragile family.

Ten years later, with his mother deceased and siblings scattered across the globe, Adam turns up unannounced at the family home. His siblings return reluctantly to Spanish Cove, but Adam's reappearance poses more questions than answers.

The past is a tangled web of deceit. And, as tension builds, it's apparent somebody has planned murderous revenge for the events of 10 years ago.

Good yarn

I enjoyed this and liked the fact it was tied up with a satisfactory ending
But there were so many characters it was very hard to work out who was who. The reader is my favourite but this tim I wish she had used different voices. Still I did enjoy the story.

love this edge of the seat guessing book

Wow just when you think you know who did it you're wrong, when you think you know why it was done, you're wrong. Great book and I love Aofia she makes the story sound great.

Complicated!

My favourite narrator was absolutely brilliant in this story - she had many different characters and it was essential for her to make these characters easily distinguishable as the story is soooooo complicated. Thankfully she made it all understandable and the plot unravelled satisfyingly. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing.

It goes on getting better - have faith

9 people isolated on a boat, one is killed, one must be the murderer. Sounds like a simple Agatha Christie type "Who Dun it". It's not, stick with it.

This is about two parents, their now grown up family of 6, and their rather complicated relationships with each other. By the end of the book we feel like we really know and understand them all.

The book is set in a remote coastal part of the South of Ireland. In June 2018 the estranged, grown-up, children all return for a family reunion to mark the 10th Anniversary of their Mother's passing. The last part of the book takes us back on a journey covering the last 10 years in order that we fully understand what happened on the boat. It actually gets quite emotional by the end.

We do get quite a lot of dialogue in the form:
". . . . " said Cleo
". . . . " said James
". . . . " said Cleo etc.

It you can tolerate the several hours of scene setting, this really is a most wonderful book. One of the best I've ever read.

Let down after the excellent "Dirty Little Secrets

I tried to read "The Confession" but although I liked some parts of it, it just felt a bit dark and as I was not enjoying it I gave up.
I then was very intrigued by the premise of Dirty Little Secrets and adored every single moment of this often funny, clever and ingenious thriller ........... so then I tried an Inspector Tom Reynolds "Sleeping Beauty" but just found it all a bit dry.

But despite my hit and miss relationship with Jo Spain's writing, I decided that "Six Wicked Reasons" sounded like another in the style of by beloved "Dirty Little Secrets" .............. but it just did not live up to its forerunner though I did like it much more that The Confession or Sleeping Beauties.

I could see something nasty was going to happen to the poor old dog and as I like to listen to thrillers for enjoyment and relaxation hearing about animal suffering and cruelty - though fictitious is just so stressful and unpleasant - so this foreboding did overshadow the book for me though it was not a theme it was a slow and unwelcome train coming for me.

I think this could have been a great book - but once it took a giant leap for the frankly unbelievable it seemed to highlight the rather far fetched elements I had previously forgiven.

Love, love, love another clever, inventive and fresh thriller like "Dirty Little Secrets" but this was not it, though I would say better than The Confession or Sleeping Beauties ............. hoping down the line Jo Spain can pull another brilliant one out of the hat next time.

Good But a Bit Vanilla

I love Jo Spain and I enjoyed this book but not as much as her earlier novels. Even though there was a murder, it was a bit too 'Maeve Binchy' and that is not to detract from the wonderful Maeve. Get back to the grit Jo.

Disappointing read from Jo Spain

Having listened to Jo Spain’s previous books on audible, I had expectations for her new book that weren’t fulfilled. I felt certain parts were predictable and other parts were made so the reader could not conjure up what was happening without prior information which was only revealed at the end. This made the book a very slow read from the beginning but it picks up at the end with a good conclusion.

Very good!

This was a very slow burn but I’m glad I persevered. It took a long time before I cared about any of the characters, I found them all very difficult to like at first, although well drawn and developed. With so many characters, the narration was excellent.

So Excellent!

I so enjoyed this book! I have very fond memories of happy family holidays in County Wexford, and I could feel myself completely immersed in the countryside as I listened to this book. The story is absolutely captivating, my husband & I listened to it together & are still chatting about the characters & the mystery of it all. I loved every minute of it. Well done Jo Spain and Aoife McMahon. More please !!!
