In this definitive biography, renowned Bible scholar, Anglican bishop, and best-selling author N. T. For centuries, Paul, the apostle who "saw the light on the Road to Damascus" and made a miraculous conversion from zealous Pharisee persecutor to devoted follower of Christ, has been one of the church's most widely cited saints.

Story
In The Day the Revolution Began, N. T. Wright once again challenges commonly held Christian beliefs, as he did in Surprised by Hope. Demonstrating the rigorous intellect and breathtaking knowledge that have long defined his work, Wright argues that Jesus' death on the cross was not only to absolve us of our sins, it was actually the beginning of a revolution commissioning the Christian faithful to a new vocation - a royal priesthood responsible for restoring and reconciling all of God's creation.

Story
N. T. Wright argues that every world view must explain seven “signposts”, indicators inherent to humanity. Using the Gospel of John as his source, Wright shows how Christianity defines each signpost and illuminates why we so often see them as being "broken" and unattainable. Drawing on the wisdom of the Gospels, Wright explains why these signposts are fractured and damaged and how Christianity provides the vision, guidance, and hope for making them whole once again, ultimately healing ourselves and our world.

In Typology—Understanding the Bible's Promise-Shaped Patterns, author James M. Hamilton Jr. shows that the similarities we find in the Bible are based on genuine historical correspondence and demonstrates how we recognize them in the repetition of words and phrases, the parallels between patterns of events, and key thematic equivalences. When understood in light of God's promises, these historical correspondences spotlight further repetitions that snowball on one another to build escalating significance.

Publisher's Summary
We have grown used to the battles over Jesus - whether he was human or divine, whether he could do miracles or just inspire them, whether he even existed. Much of the church defends tradition, while critics take shots at the institution and its beliefs. But what if these debates have masked the real story of Jesus? What if even Jesus’s defenders have been so blinded by their focus on defending the church’s traditions that they have failed to grapple with what the New Testament really teaches?
Bible scholar, Anglican bishop, and bestselling author N. T. Wright summarizes a lifetime of study of Jesus and the New Testament in order to present for a general audience who Jesus was and is. In Simply Jesus, we are invited to hear one of our leading scholars introduce the story of the carpenter’s son from Nazareth as if we were hearing it for the first time.
“Jesus - the Jesus we might discover if we really looked,” explains Wright, “is larger, more disturbing, more urgent than we had ever imagined. We have successfully managed to hide behind other questions and to avoid the huge, world-shaking challenge of Jesus’s central claim and achievement. It is we, the churches, who have been the real reductionists. We have reduced the kingdom of God to private piety; the victory of the cross to comfort for the conscience; Easter itself to a happy, escapist ending after a sad, dark tale. Piety, conscience, and ultimate happiness are important, but not nearly as important as Jesus himself.” As the church faces the many challenges of the twenty-first century, Wright has presented a vision of Jesus that more than meets them.

Well worth the effort
Was slightly put off by the sample of the narration style, but once I became used to the narrators cadence, ended up being very good. Listened at about an hour at a time whilst running, and found that anything less than this was difficult to really get into. Definitely the sort of audio book that needs to be listened to at length, not taken in small bites and chunks.
Overall great book but that hardly needs to be said of NT Wright

A new way of being human
I don't know why this book was about my 20th of Wright's books. I thought I knew what there was to know about Jesus. But this one nailed it down better. How He wasn't the Messiah they wanted because He had a far different plan, how it was no more business as usual now He'd arrived, what it meant for Him to become king of the world, and what it meant to be His follower, and what it means today. It is far different from what most Christians think - at least in the evangelical world. If you want your faith shaken up and refreshed, read this book.

Profoundly simple and erudite
Wright is expert at Making biblical themes simple enough to grasp, without dumbing down or eroding essential, profound truths and meaning. Wright’s approach to the the biblical Jesus is still refreshing and inspiring to me, a long time Christian. I will keep referring to this text and be more than happy to pass it on to non-believers as well.
