About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

In this sizzling dystopian romance, perfect for fans of Fourth Wing and The Hunger Games, your secrets can be a death sentence, and there are rules to survival:

TRUST NO ONE.

Twenty-year-old Wren Darlington is not your ordinary Mod. She’s one of the most powerful in existence.

But her world is divided. On the Continent, being a known Modified means certain death, as the Primes - those immune to the biotoxin that nearly wiped out the population 150 years ago - want nothing more than to eliminate those who were enhanced by the toxin and developed psychic powers.

LIE TO EVERYONE.

Wren has survived all these years by concealing her abilities and keeping a low profile while doing what she can to aid the rebel Uprising in fighting against the Primes’ oppressive rule. But one careless mistake places her in the crosshairs of the Continent’s military, and she is forced to join their most elite program: Silver Block. Unwittingly, her enemy has given her - and the Uprising - the perfect opportunity to strike a devastating blow from inside their ranks.

AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T FALL FOR YOUR GREATEST ENEMY.

That is, if she can keep her powers hidden, survive training, and prove herself to Cross Redden, her cocky, maddeningly attractive commanding officer.

Despite the explosive chemistry between them, Wren cannot let Cross get in the way of her mission. But as war rages between Mods like her and those who aim to destroy them, emotions run high and secrets are revealed, forcing Wren to decide how far she’s willing to go to protect herself . . . and how much of the Continent is worth saving.

Editorial Review

A new series to obsess over
A dystopian, enemies-to-lovers tale with a powerful heroine and a dash of fantasy? Dani Francis, did you write this for me? Needless to say, I inhaled this debut, which hooked me from the outset with its air of mystery and surprising humour. Wren Darlington has spent her life hiding—both her true identity (which even she doesn’t know) and her powerful psychic abilities that would mean death by execution. Both by chance and by her own mistakes, she lands herself in the Continent’s military training program where she now has the opportunity to join the rebellion of Modifieds (like herself) and cause chaos from inside enemy lines. One problem (among many): Her attraction to her commanding officer. Amanda Dolan (Red Queen) is perfectly cast as Wren, and the twists that come in the final third of the book already have me aching for a sequel. —Katie O., Audible Editor

Critic Reviews

The adult dystopian romance I’ve been wanting for the longest time . . . I’m absolutely obsessed!
Thoroughly addictive – I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough

Captivating, intriguing and I couldn’t (virtually) put this down!
Ending eludes to a prequel, hopefully it doesn’t take too long to come out 🙏🏼
Overall, loved it!

Soo good!

3.75⭐️ Imagine a target, and a scatter of bullets hitting everywhere but the bullseye - that is this book. The target hit, but never quite nailing it.

The plot, whilst overall interesting, was disjointed, and erratically paced.

The world building has promise, but with the majority of the book spent on a cold heartless military base with a narrow range of mostly one-dimensional characters, I remained uninspired at the end of Book #1.

I mostly enjoyed Wren, but I would have liked to see more character evolution. I did not enjoy how she seemed to froth over the physique every second male character and the endless lines about broad shoulders, chiseled jaws, and bulging pecs…

And finally, the relationship between Wren and Cross. I just didn’t feel it! It might have helped if Cross had been a more fleshed out character. As it was, he just felt like a pin up boy for the book. The chemistry between the two was blah, and sexual tension non-existent. The sex itself felt mechanical, often cringe worthy, and was scattered throughout the book carelessly, with little role in driving the plot or character development, rather it felt like it existed simply to satisfy a “romantasy recipe” so to speak.

Silver Elite Book #1 had promise, but never quite delivered. It is possible that Book #2 could turn things around, but it will take a fair bit of heart, and a lot more originality, to breathe real life into this series.

All in all, Silver Elite whilst enjoyable, was underwhelming. But I will still likely be strapping myself in for Book #2 when available.

Audiobook: Dolan did a great job, narrating both female and male characters well.

Entertaining, but sadly, unremarkable.

I liked the story and enjoyed the plot....could guess the identities of WOLF and Daisy pretty early on....I would have preferred duel narration in this story, but the narrator did a good job once I became accustomed to the voices.

Easy entertainment
