About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
In this sizzling dystopian romance, perfect for fans of Fourth Wing and The Hunger Games, your secrets can be a death sentence, and there are rules to survival:
TRUST NO ONE.
Twenty-year-old Wren Darlington is not your ordinary Mod. She’s one of the most powerful in existence.
But her world is divided. On the Continent, being a known Modified means certain death, as the Primes - those immune to the biotoxin that nearly wiped out the population 150 years ago - want nothing more than to eliminate those who were enhanced by the toxin and developed psychic powers.
LIE TO EVERYONE.
Wren has survived all these years by concealing her abilities and keeping a low profile while doing what she can to aid the rebel Uprising in fighting against the Primes’ oppressive rule. But one careless mistake places her in the crosshairs of the Continent’s military, and she is forced to join their most elite program: Silver Block. Unwittingly, her enemy has given her - and the Uprising - the perfect opportunity to strike a devastating blow from inside their ranks.
AND WHATEVER YOU DO, DON’T FALL FOR YOUR GREATEST ENEMY.
That is, if she can keep her powers hidden, survive training, and prove herself to Cross Redden, her cocky, maddeningly attractive commanding officer.
Despite the explosive chemistry between them, Wren cannot let Cross get in the way of her mission. But as war rages between Mods like her and those who aim to destroy them, emotions run high and secrets are revealed, forcing Wren to decide how far she’s willing to go to protect herself . . . and how much of the Continent is worth saving.

Soo good!
Captivating, intriguing and I couldn’t (virtually) put this down!
Ending eludes to a prequel, hopefully it doesn’t take too long to come out 🙏🏼
Overall, loved it!

Not Bad but also Not Great
It took until the end of the book for anything to actually happen regarding the war. Until the last few chapters, it was more just a love story between Wren and Cross, no action or anything exciting at all really. The narrator contradicts the writing with her performance. If the writing says that Wren is stressed the narrator comes across as calm. I'll still likely listen to the 2nd book when it comes out but it won't be at the top of my tbr list.

Your typical romantasy book
This book has been vastly over sold on social media. Yes it has elements of Fourth wing and your other young adult military books but that also means it’s not special and lacks anything that makes it particularly memorable. If you wanna understand the FMC watch any memes where someone makes fun of FMCs of the genre and there she is. The love story is shallow and predictable and your left with a plot whereby the FMC constantly complains against the consequences of her own actions.

Amanda Dolan is Wren
🎧AudioBook Review🎧
🎧4stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall audiobook narrator brings it up in stars to feel NA and not YA.
3 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️writing due to being a lil kiljoy as its just overedited to tradpub perfection but drags on & a lil formulamatic, people pleasing and trope heavy - gets huge points for both MCs meeting early.Magic system is interesting,FMC has bite,MMC isn't daunted by FMCs Alphavibes plus Cross is very mysterious,Found family is the big lift kit here - Love Lyddie &Kaine.
6 hours down into a 19 hour audioBook.
Not Dual POV but there's enough activity between main characters to grab your attention - I'm still intrigued to keep listening. It was a worthy purchase.
So FarNarrator Amanda Dolan holding this on her own really well. Amanda feels like Wren would be and she certainly is capturing the mood of books own voice and taking it to much stronger place.
Yes & yum on CROSS! I had alot fun listening along to all the academy hijinks.
Jasmin E Reads - i Own over 300 audio Books it takes alot to keep me listening I need to attracted to something and I just like The FMC and how the Narrator tells the story.
Quality engineering - no breathing sounds and no cough and cold swallowing like in book1 4thWing. high quality audio all round.

Wolf 🐺
4.5 star
World building took a bit to get my head around, but once I got into it was hard to stop. The characters are good (few questionable FMC moments) but good tension with MMC, some unexpected moments with characters to throw you a bit too.
I guessed what would happen pretty early on so a little predictable but an enjoyable read and looking forward to the next one!

The new Fourth Wing
It took me a while to warm up to the narrator but I loved the story. Slightly predictable in parts but exciting, engaging and everything you want from this genre. If you love Fourth Wing, this will be up your street.

Gripping!
Love the story. Super gripping and entertaining. Could anticipate a lot of it but was still super exciting. The narrator was also brilliant.
