Publisher's Summary
Poppy never imagined she’d move to the English countryside and fall in love with a smug, demanding, ginger-haired male. Of course, that was before she discovered that she’d inherited a cottage garden nursery and before she met a certain talkative orange cat. Now she’s embracing a new life filled with rambling roses, fragrant herbs, warm summer days…and weeds (lots of weeds), as she attempts to restore the neglected cottage garden to its former glory.
When she lands her first gardening job at a beautiful country house, Poppy is delighted to earn some much-needed money. But she barely sets foot in the flower bed before the meddling neighbour drops dead in front of her - murdered by a lethal poison. Before she knows it, Poppy is busy weeding out suspects, helped by mad scientist Bertie and his feisty terrier, Einstein, plus a whole host of nosy villagers…not to mention maverick crime author Nick Forrest.
But with her clients’ flowerbed mysteriously dying and red herrings at every turn, Poppy soon discovers that neither gardening nor sleuthing are as simple as she thinks....

This series keeps getting better
I found myself totally engrossed in this story. I really enjoyed hearing about how Poppy has started to really settle into her new life and is sorting out business. She lands a job planting an English garden when nafarious happenings take place and a nosey neighbor winds up dead. With the help of a certain dark and handsome author, quirky scientist and of course a handsome ,demanding ginger tomcat Poppy tries to uncover the killer when she insteads lands herself in hot water. I was keapt guessing on the identity of the killer and was completely surprised when the identity was revealed. Pearl Hewitt casts her spell again bringing this story to life. I didn't want to stop listening! I'm so looking forward to the next book in this series. Disclaimer I was given a copy of this book for free in exchange a review. The thoughts above are my own.

Love this series!!
H.Y. Hanna’s cozy mysteries are always fun and addictive, and Silent Bud Deadly was no exception. I love how she effortlessly and cleverly weaves in the back story so that you won’t feel lost no matter where you enter the series. The recurring characters are a pleasure to revisit. I was glad to see that Bertie, Poppy’s neighbor who invents strange things that he tends to try out on unsuspecting people, was back in book 2. His antics brought many chuckles during the story. My favorite cat, Oren, the very vocal tabby, and its owner, the enigmatic writer, Nick Forest, were also present in book 2 to my delight. I also learned much about various poisonous houseplants. Discovering something new while reading an H.Y. Hanna mystery is always a highlight. Overall, this whodunnit was plausible and highly enjoyable. I definitely recommend this series, especially if you like intelligent cozy mysteries with fun, quirky characters and a great plot.

Lighthearted fun with laugh-out-loud moments!
Silent Bud Deadly is a fun and lighthearted read with several laugh-out-loud moments, and an enjoyable follow up to Deadhead and Buried in the English Cottage Garden Mystery series. The always impressive Pearl Hewitt narrated this audiobook, as she did with the prior book in the series. Pearl narrates with such enthusiasm and excitement that it’s impossible not to be entertained by such a charming cozy mystery series. The story begins soon after Poppy Lancaster inherits her estranged grandmother’s dilapidated cottage garden nursery. After working hard to restore the nursery to its former glory - primarily pulling out all the weeds - Poppy is rewarded with her first gardening contract at a beautiful country house. Soon after she begins, the meddling next door neighbor drops dead in front of her after being given a lethal poison. Poppy can’t resist but get involved in discovering who did it, eliciting the help of a few of her quirky neighbors in the process. What I like most about H.Y. Hanna’s stories are they are well written with likable characters and the mysteries are plausible with enough red herrings so as not to spoil the endings. I especially enjoyed reading how Poppy made mistakes in her attempt at honing her gardening skills, as well as learning some insight into a few of the secondary characters such as Bertie the eccentric old inventor and Nick the former detective turned crime author. I’m really looking forward to the next book in this fun cozy series!

Better than the 1st!
I have to fight not to say "I love this series!" in every review. lol But I do love it! This book is even better than the first. Bertie makes me laugh out loud, and Poppy is pretty astute for an amateur detective. I just wish she would've taken her gardening business more seriously rather than paying so much attention to detective work. However, that particular theme was addressed at the end it became a lesson for Poppy, so it's not as if the writer ignored it or that it was an accident or anything. I love how HY Hanna is developing her characters. They're not stupid or aggravating and she weaves great lessons, clues, and themes all through her books. Excellent writing!

wonderful
I enjoy all of Hannah's book series, Im especially enjoying Poppy. I love that the cat is the neighbor's territorial ginger, and how she has a connection with Suzanne, the detective. Refreshing to see the main Character not relying on the connections of a male Character.. Obviously it would be great for her and Nick to get together. But Im enjoying the Main character meeting friends and such Without the relationship that Caitlin & Gemma have in the other series. Hannah has a great ability to tap into some great and diverse Characters. The stories don't pull "last Chapter Characters" who are the killers without having been in the book until theend. Pearl Hewitt is the by far the best Audible on line narrator.

Another Good Mystery
I like the way H.Y. Hannah weaves her plots together. The transitions from event to event make sense and move naturally to the conclusion of the mystery. But what I like most is the way she builds a community of characters and their relationships. So I found the 2nd book in this series very satisfying. What I find annoying is that her heroine Poppy is filled with so much self-doubt and indecision about herself and her new career. It is preposterous that Poppy, who is a rank novice, would embark on a professional gardening career without engaging with or even listening to all the gardening advice given her by everyone around her. She just dismisses everyone and does her own thing, which just silly. Poppy is so smart about finding and assessing information related to the murder, that it's hard to understand why she doesn't apply her reasoning skills to her efforts to learn gardening. But once I let this inconsistency go and just went along with the story, I found the story very enjoyable.

A great new series. I always know that I'm going to be entertained when I pick up a H.Y. Hanna book. There will be lots of humour and a good mystery with quirky characters. I enjoyed this book as much as the first. Pearl Hewitt is a very popular narrator and I always enjoy her performances. Looking forward to reading more! Charming and cosy
H.Y. Hanna has recently cornered the market in ditsy heroines who solve mysteries. The latest such protagonist, Poppy, is learning to garden very quickly having inherited a cottage in a village, having lived in town until now. Along with a garden in need of restoration she finds eccentric neighbours, the odd body, and a large demanding tomcat. Not only does she investigate the murders she stumbles across, she's trying to find out about her own history and her unknown father. Poppy is sweet and gently amusing and sometimes irritating in her dogged pursuit of red herrings, very much like Hanna's other heroines - if she were to get them together we'd have trouble telling them apart. Nevertheless, these are very goodhearted, cosy stories, excellent for drifting off to sleep with and a pleasant panacea for daily woes. They are read very well by Pearl Hewitt, who has voiced all of Hanna's books and has an excellent line in cat conversation. My only caveat, and it's a purely personal one, is I dislike punning titles - I can't quite remember how I persuaded myself to listen to a book with such a title, but I'm glad I did.
