Publisher's Summary

Even by the standards of a sport that requires enormous stamina and capacity for suffering, Jens Voigt is in a class on his own. Beloved by cycling fans for his madcap one-man breakaways as much as his sense of humour and quotable catchphrases, Jens is one of the most popular personalities in cycling.

Jens was born near Hamburg and came up through the East German system before the Wall came down. He got into the national team through the German army before signing for his first big team. In many ways he is cycling's anti-star; despite arguably spending more time at the front of the Tour de France than any other rider, he has worn the yellow jersey only twice, as his efforts have always been in the service of others.

Jens embodies the best of cycling's qualities - loyalty to his team, sacrifice, and devotion to the sport. He says, 'I'm not a head person, I'm more of a heart and guts guy. That's how I race.'

Shut Up Legs will be a funny, insightful and entertaining look at the tough realities of professional cycling, told in Jens' trademark irreverent and inimitable style.

great story of the rock in the sea of cycling

I didn't know much of this story before and thoroughly enjoyed listening to it while my son and I drove to mountains for riding adventures of our own.

Hard man - now know him a little better off the bike

Enjoyed account of Jen's life and career around cycling. Some repeat of key points throughout however was worth the read.

Loved it...

As a avid cyclist, I loved watching Jensie's antics on the bike over the years...

Hearing his story have a great insight into the man, and only reinforced what a great rider and person he is.

Highly recommended for all cycling fans.

I couldn't take the accent

Story is ok but the accent I couldn't listen. I know what they try to do, but didn't work for me.

Cod accent spoils it

The biography itself is interesting insight into the world of a professional cyclist. However it is ruined by the use of a cod accent by the reader. I know the author is German and speaks with an accent but I don't believe it needs to be falsely imitated. I suppose some marketing person thought this would add authenticity.

hard work

I'm only half way through and the accent of the narrator is killing it for me. I appreciate its necessary but its almost comedic at times, like Dr. Nick from the Simpsons... huge fan of Jens but its really spoiling it for me.

Really great insight into a great rider.

Really enjoyed the book. It's well paced and give a real insight in to Jens' life.

If I could make one small change I would rather have the book read by a native German speaker as some of the pronunciations seem a little off. Eg I would prefer that Voigt is pronounced correctly and not the Phil Ligget way. :)

Doesn't matter too much though and won't spoil the story.

Sadly the narrator put me off.....

Ooooh. That narrator. Put me clean off the audio book so I have sadly returned it. The book itself is a collection of light hearted stories by a loved cyclist.

Good book but annoying voice

Enjoyed the book but found the accent (although probably required) a little annoying and fake sounding

Great 'book' but awful voiceover

I'm a Jens fan. Lets cover that first, so the fact that I enjoyed hearing his story is of no surprise. Having a 'German' accent on the audiobook is a nice touch but I'm not convinced by the authenticity OF said accent. It was inconsistent, sort of like a Brummy reading a book out-loud in an attempt at a Cockney accent. If you can get beyond that, then I'd thoroughly reccommend it. I'd suggest listening to the sample first though.

Book is great it’s just the accent.

I’m now due to the book a fan of Jens. It’s heart warming and humorous. It’s just the accent the reader adds is unnecessary. Yes he’s German. But why not get a true German to read it. Or as it’s been read in English, English. Great book but you may have to get used to the accent.
