Publisher's Summary

Even by the standards of a sport that requires enormous stamina and capacity for suffering, Jens Voigt is in a class on his own. Beloved by cycling fans for his madcap one-man breakaways as much as his sense of humour and quotable catchphrases, Jens is one of the most popular personalities in cycling.

Jens was born near Hamburg and came up through the East German system before the Wall came down. He got into the national team through the German army before signing for his first big team. In many ways he is cycling's anti-star; despite arguably spending more time at the front of the Tour de France than any other rider, he has worn the yellow jersey only twice, as his efforts have always been in the service of others.

Jens embodies the best of cycling's qualities - loyalty to his team, sacrifice, and devotion to the sport. He says, 'I'm not a head person, I'm more of a heart and guts guy. That's how I race.'

Shut Up Legs will be a funny, insightful and entertaining look at the tough realities of professional cycling, told in Jens' trademark irreverent and inimitable style.

Good read

The accent put me off at first but came back to it after reading other TDF books and found it somewhat interesting

great story of the rock in the sea of cycling

I didn't know much of this story before and thoroughly enjoyed listening to it while my son and I drove to mountains for riding adventures of our own.

Hard man - now know him a little better off the bike

Enjoyed account of Jen's life and career around cycling. Some repeat of key points throughout however was worth the read.

Loved it...

As a avid cyclist, I loved watching Jensie's antics on the bike over the years...

Hearing his story have a great insight into the man, and only reinforced what a great rider and person he is.

Highly recommended for all cycling fans.

I couldn't take the accent

Story is ok but the accent I couldn't listen. I know what they try to do, but didn't work for me.

Cod accent spoils it

The biography itself is interesting insight into the world of a professional cyclist. However it is ruined by the use of a cod accent by the reader. I know the author is German and speaks with an accent but I don't believe it needs to be falsely imitated. I suppose some marketing person thought this would add authenticity.

hard work

I'm only half way through and the accent of the narrator is killing it for me. I appreciate its necessary but its almost comedic at times, like Dr. Nick from the Simpsons... huge fan of Jens but its really spoiling it for me.

Sadly the narrator put me off.....

Ooooh. That narrator. Put me clean off the audio book so I have sadly returned it. The book itself is a collection of light hearted stories by a loved cyclist.

Good book but annoying voice

Enjoyed the book but found the accent (although probably required) a little annoying and fake sounding

Really great insight into a great rider.

Really enjoyed the book. It's well paced and give a real insight in to Jens' life.

If I could make one small change I would rather have the book read by a native German speaker as some of the pronunciations seem a little off. Eg I would prefer that Voigt is pronounced correctly and not the Phil Ligget way. :)

Doesn't matter too much though and won't spoil the story.

I bonked

I consider myself to have quite a high pain threshold and can happily endure discomfort all day long. But despite several attempts, the narrator’s awful impression of a German accent is so painful that I haven’t been able to make it past the 3 hour mark.

It’s a shame because I’m sure Jens has written a really good story, I suppose I’ll just have to go old school and actually read the book.

Terrible accent by reader

Ruined by terrible accents- good book, I will have to read it myself as the reader on this was so annoying I had to stop listening. Would have done better to just read in own accent if unable to do credible accents.

JVs honest and revealing biography

A great story tracking the career of one of the best loved cyclists of his generation. JV comes over as a reflective, rational and likeable character despite what sounds like an 'Allo, Allo' accent being used to represent him!

Don’t, DON’T buy until you’ve read this

Oh man; MAN the artist is a horrific narrator. The german accents - pretty much every 2 minutes of the book - ruin the whole thing. I’d have wanted the story soooooo much but just can’t endure the appalling performance to be able to enjoy it.
