Publisher's Summary

A new space fantasy series where the guys are hot, the perils are many, and one rebel messenger holds the key to the survival of the human race.

Lies aren't her only weapons against the fae...

In the Halow system, one of Earth’s three sister star systems, tek and magic - humans and fae - are at war.

Kesh Lasota is a ghost in the machine. Invisible to tek, she’s hired by the criminal underworld to carry illegal messages through the Halow system. But when one of those messages kills its recipient, Kesh finds herself on the run with a bounty on her head and a quick-witted marshal on her tail.

Proving her innocence should be straightforward. Until a warfae steals the evidence she needs. The fae haven’t been seen in Halow in over a thousand years. And this one - a brutally efficient killer able to wield tek - should not exist. But neither should Kesh.

As Kesh’s carefully crafted lie of a life crumbles around her, she knows being invisible is no longer an option. To hunt the warfae, to stop him from destroying a thousand-year fragile peace, she must resurrect the horrors of her past.

Kesh Lasota was a ghost. Now she’s back, and there’s only one thing she knows for certain: Nobody shoots the messenger and gets away with it.

I loved this book already and jumped on the chance to listen to the audiobook, made me love it even more! The backround noises and sound effects were a nice bonus!

Thank you

Narration was a little robotic at times. Not sure if that was intentional or not. I never realized how much I liked using my own imagination for narration and character voices. I really liked the story, but I don't think audio books are for me.

A great start for a sci-fi/fantasy series

With less than a month until the release of the fourth book in the series I thought it was high time to go back to the beginning. And I was lucky enough that the audio version just got released as it let me experience the book on workdays. If I had to stick to normal reading it would have taken me at least a week of stolen moments in the mornings and evenings. The audio quality is incredible. I loved Annie Ellicott and Jeff Hays narration and the sound effects were simply great. Jeff's makes all the male characters come alive. I can't decide which one I liked most - SOTA or Kellee. Kellee's voice made me purr - I wish I could find a man with such voice in real life (I have a thing for voices).

Now, onto the book itself. In this book we get introduced to a whole new world filled with amazing tek (SOTA!), magic, Fae and other fascinating species. We also get introduced to two of the main male characters - Marshal Kellee and Talen. Kesh, the main protagonist of the series, is a strange mix of badass and vulnerability, of innocence and cunning. And I love that complexity, that potential for change - change I had the opportunity to observe over the course of the following two books.

A little note on the genre of this book. If you're expecting a hot dirty smut type of book you'll be disappointed. The reverse harem develops slowly. Very slowly! But there's a lot of sexual tension. How would I categorize this book - a sci-fi/fantasy with some romance/erotica sprinkled in. So think carefully before picking this up - if you're looking for fast and dirty read focused more on the carnal than on plot this book is not for you. But if you're looking for a slow burn romance with a gradual character development and a lot of action you should definitely give the series a try.

Absolutely FANTASTIC story!

This is hands down the BEST performance of an audiobook I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. It even has the sound effects that are integral to the story, and the narrators were perfectly chosen. Exceptionally well done!

Beware: Bodice ripper disguised as sci-fi.

First of all, this is not a bad book, as such. Soundbooth Theater delivers excellent narration as always and the writing is competent. But if you're a guy who expects logic and reason to dictate the flow of events, this really isn't the book for you. Shoot the Messenger is heavy on the romance and doesn't offer much else.

What a fantastic series this is!

I was blessed enough to receive this title from the author, and I have loved this series from the very start (starting with this wonderful book). I jumped on the chance to hear the book being performed by these two actors, and it has been an interesting experience. I repeat - I LOVE this series. LOVE the story. LOOOOOVE the characters and the story line and the slow burn romance and the twisty turns by which the author leads us on a merry chase.

I learned that I don't love other people's pronunciation of words (SOTA and soda are not the same things) and the voices/accents didn't match those in my head. I was a bit taken aback by the inconsistent sound effects, but hey, everyone else seems to have liked them so I'm clearly in the minority there. ;)

Do yourself a favour - get ahold of this series, it's a winner!!

pretty meh.

so there is a lot in this book. plenty of intrigue shifting loyalties a bit of a reverse Harem kind of thing going on. this isn't bad just not good especially the ending ending is lots of not good and sort of out of left field I felt like they didn't do a good enough job setting a lot of The twist that they throw at you so it doesn't really work. I'm going to say save the credit save the money unless you really like science fantasy.
