Publisher's Summary

Tantor Audio presents six must-listen stories from the horror comedy series Shingles.

The collection begins with "The Ghost of Hooker Alley," which introduces listeners to 10-year-old Sarah and six-year-old Tommy. After a quick bus ride into town to buy a gun, Sarah and Tommy think their problems are all but solved. That is, until a creepy weirdo follows them into an alley. But they aren't the only ones in that alley....

"The Monkey's Penis" features Chris, a teenage boy who receives a birthday gift unlike any other. In "Gary's Children," a man's quest for stress relief leads to terror, and an unexpected kidnapping takes place in "Aliens Wrecked Our Kegger."

"Zombies Ate My Homework" is set in the middle of a zombie outbreak. Todd, his brother, Andy, his best friend, Tarik, and their tomboy friend, Mikayla are forced to take shelter in the first place they can find - an adult novelty store.

In the final story, "The Legend of Jimmy Headshot," the zombie apocalypse is upon us. The dead have risen from their graves to feed upon the flesh of the living, and 12-year-old Jimmy couldn't be happier about it.

Laughed until I cried

First things first. This isn't a story. These are a set of short stories with one element joining them together. So it is difficult to rate this book as there are highs and lows to each story and performance.
The book starts off strong with the Ghost of Hooker Alley. It is viewed through the eyes of two naive children as they try to get their father back from his depression and things escalate. The book has some of Bevan's patent gross comedy but it delivers on the situational comedy as well.
The monkey's penis and Gary's children are more like Twilight Zone episodes. The Monkey's Penis is based of the money's paw in that it grants a limited amount of wishes to the user. Good fun, some interesting twists, a decent MC.
Gary's children is more the awkward loser comedy, in which Gary get's a cursed pleasure device and things go quickly insane. The MC is the type of person that a lot of people could relate to in that you just shake you head in pity. The comedy is situational and it makes you want to shout, "Don't do it." but of course the MC does.
Hayes's story, Aliens Wrecked out Kegger, I find is the least funny of the stories but probably has the stronger plot.
Zombies Ate my Homework speaks for itself. Kids get caught in the zombie apocalypse and use interesting ways to dispatch the dead. Good amount of slapstick humour, good characters, and imaginative.
Jimmy Headshot is another zombie apocalypse story and one that is strongly influenced by the traditional zombie movies. I do find it as the most unbelievable as the MC is twelve years old but he has the mind set of a late teen or adult, but still I feel that it speaks to my inner bastard. I think that kids would get into reading if their teachers and parents gave them this book.
