Story
Having grown up with a port-wine birthmark on her face and neck, Quinn Dixon’s heard them all. Her own mother couldn’t bear to touch her, let alone strangers. Years of stares and insults from everyone from classmates to foster families have made her understandably reluctant to trust. So when John comes along, of course he couldn’t be interested in more than a brief affair. He’ll get sick of all the gawking and whispers soon enough and leave her…just like everyone else.

all about Penelope
PTSD swallowed the story whole with all, our favourite characters being along side.
it's a devastating subject written smoothly without delving too deep. keeping to the authors format
if you love Penelope then this is a must,.
the best story from her various series I've read is still fiona's story ,,,,just love the mission, the problems and the getting to know you vibe.

Amazing
The story was heartbreaking but also beautiful. Susan Stoker has written so many wonderfully awesome books. This finale of this series was so rich in emotions and comradeship I couldn’t stop listening. Erin Mallon is one of my favorite narrators and she did a super job with her inflections and her female/male voices. Well done!

Just Meh.
I disnt hate this book but didnt particularly love it either. Most of the book was focused in Pen getting her head out of her butt and I felt there was just very little content. I get it. Pen suffers from PTSD and I know the struggle is real but is just dragged on. So overall I liked the book but I will probably never read it again.

Fight like a girl!
Penelope and Moose have so much to overcome in their story. From Penelope's capture in Turkey to the deaths of White and Black, to her nervous breakdown when Koren was trapped, all caused her to run away from the one person who could help her. But Moose never gave up. He waited for the moment he could show her the depth of his love.
What a great ending to the series!

First, While all the stories in TX Heroes are stand-alone. I highly recommend reading/hearing all of them as well as 'Protecting The Future' in the SEAL of Protection series and 'Emily's Wedding' in the Delta Forces 1 series, first. All of these stories build up to 'Shelter for Penelope'. I know it's a lot but very worth it.
I loved this story. It is different from any of the other Susan Stoker stories I've read/heard. This story is about Penelope and her story from the 'Army Princess' to current day. I liked how it shows her struggles with PTSD and survivors guilt. It features many characters from previous stories. It is also a story about how important having personal support is to those who hurt.
My only criticism is that this story shows a level of suffering the other stories hint of but don't always exhibit.
Erin Mallon did another fabulous job.

Healing & hope blossoms in the midst of darkness
This is the last book in the Badge of Honor series by Susan Stoker. This book is an emotionally heavy read, but well worth the tissues and tears. Moose has watched Penelope struggle with her PTSD without help for too long. He’s done waiting for her to come to him. Moose pushes past Penelope’s defenses and makes her deal with her past. He knows they can never have a future if she can’t learn to cope with her capture by ISIS. Penelope has always been a natural leader, headstrong & smart, but lately finds her self confidence & trust of others deeply depleted. Can Penelope trust Moose to lead her back to the light as she battles the demons only she can see? Will she be able to fill in the blank spaces of that fateful day? And if she does, will she be able to live with her actions? And just how far and at what cost will Moose go to in order to help his Penelope heal?
As sad as I am that the Badge of Honor series is ending, this final book leaves a sense of completion and satisfaction with all of the Badge of Honor characters finding new joyful steps in the phases of their relationships. Thank you Susan for an amazing journey through this book series.
Erin Mallon did an amazing job evoking Penelope's multitude of emotions. I felt every emotion deep in my heart & my gut - a pain so deep and a love so real. Fantastic job, Erin! Your voice broke my heart in the beginning and put it back together in the end.

How to ruin a good book!
I like reading and generally listening to Susan Stokers books but who thought having this particular narrator narrate the book was a good idea? Within moments her overly pronounced words at the end of each scripted line grated like a dull cheese grater. I am looking for a refund on my credit.

Very enjoyable
SS has been building up to Moose and Penelope's story for a very long time, and it doesn't quite live up to the build-up. That said, it's still a strong entry in the Texas Heroes series. Moose is absolutely wonderful and Penelope's battle with her PTSD is heartbreaking at times. She's a strong woman, who struggles with survivors guilt after being taken hostage in Iraq and he gives her the combination of support and tough love she needs to face her demons.
