And with her changing light, new insights are revealed. This book gives us the chance to connect to the ancient wisdom of the old people, who reach forward into our lives, with each of the moon’s names as their offerings. Their reminders are a source of strength in our strange modern world, where we have been stripped of much of the connection and relationships we need for our wellbeing through successive lockdowns.

In this beautiful and transformative book, 24 Māori academics share their personal journeys, revealing what being Māori has meant for them in their work. Their perspectives provide insight for all New Zealanders into how mātauranga is positively influencing the Western-dominated disciplines of knowledge in the research sector. It is a shameful fact, says co-editor Jacinta Ruru in her introduction to Nga Kete Mātauranga, that in 2020, only about five percent of academic staff at universities in Aotearoa New Zealand are Māori.

Story
The Politics of Trauma offers somatics with a social analysis. This book is for therapists and social activists who understand that trauma healing is not just for individuals - and that social change is not just for movement builders. Just as health practitioners need to consider the societal factors underlying trauma, so too must activists understand the physical and mental impacts of trauma on their own lives and the lives of the communities with whom they organize. Trauma healing and social change are, at their best, interdependent.

Publisher's Summary
Mataio (Matt) Faafetai Malietoa Brown offers the men in his barbershop a haircut with a difference: a safe space to be seen and heard without judgement.
As the creator of My Fathers Barbers, Matt has inspired a new generation of New Zealand men to break free from the cycle of abuse - and those men have in turn inspired Matt and his wife, Sarah, to create the global anti-violence movement She Is Not Your Rehab.
In this book, Matt shares his own story and those of his clients: how they survived family violence and abuse, and how they were able to find healing and turn their lives around. He introduces the people and concepts that have helped him heal and gives listeners the tools they need to begin their own journeys.
She is Not Your Rehab demonstrates the power of vulnerability and honesty in addressing pain and shame, and shows how anyone can empower themselves by taking responsibility for their own healing.

Thank you 🙏
Thank you soo much for soo gently but impact fully sharing your story, your words have imprinted on me deeper than any korero I have sat or read through 💚
My story is not a story of domestic violence but is of a deep feeling of abandonment & rejection, my husband grew up in a alcohol, drug, domestic violence, poverty, lack of environment.
A reminder of the mahi I have done and the journey my husband is coming through, your courageous share means I understand him soo much more now, your sharing helped fill in the blanks my husband hasn't yet been able to share in detail that I soo desperately wanted to understand, I am genuinely grateful, your book is giving him hope, so again a heart felt thank you, arohatino nui 💚

Just amazing! it was that good, that I'm speechless!
But I will say this... being a victim/survivor of childhood FDV & SA myself, then experiencing DV within my own marriage... and to go on and become a DV specialist counsellor working specifically with indigenous women - This book offers so many amazing pearls of wisdom, gems of knowledge and an abundance of revalationary wealth for my work and the sisters I work with!
Thank you Matt Brown, for taking your journey and using it for the betterment of others! There is so much that we women can learn in this space about the sufferings and compassion of, and for our men, and how to support that healing journey without destroying ourselves in the process!
Arohanui to you and your whanau! You are amazing Matt, and the work you do is such a breakthrough, and so commendable!!!

If you change the “she is not …” to “ he is not … “ I think every couple should read this before they enter a relationship and certainly before marriage or to repair a marriage . While written for men , women can also learn a lot as it works both ways .. thanks for the story and the great narration Matt.
