Publisher's Summary

From USA Today best-selling author Ava Harrison comes an enemies-to-lovers, slow-burn romance with a twist.

Trent Aldridge is the devil.

Rich. Arrogant. Sinfully handsome.

He holds my inheritance in his hands. Twenty-two million dollars I didn't even know about. I met him at a funeral. As one life ended, mine unraveled. Because he has one to ruin me. And Trent Aldridge never loses. My present is gone and my future is in ashes. All because of a past that's not even mine.

Control. Power.

He has it all now that I'm his maid. He's rude, sarcastic, and well...the hottest man I've ever met. Lust is a dangerous game to play. Where there's smoke, there's fire. And I'm about to light the match.

AVA HARRISON AT HER HEART-SCORCHING BEST

Oh, Ava.. Ava.. Ava I’m a wee bit grumpy this morning and look like roadkill and it’s all your fault.. what’s that, why you dare to ask me? Well it’s this compelling, unstoppable, addictive slow burning enemies-lovers tale of course that I stupidly started just before bed. I should’ve known your greatness would pull me in from the start with angry, handsome, sexy, vindictive, vengeful Trent for your anti hero leading the charge on Peyton his innocent, loveable, sweet, naive target. He thought he was justified in making her life a living Hell.. but you and Peyton would show Trent how very wrong and unjustified he’d been with feisty barbs thrown right back at him, with unshakeable strength of character in the face of his powerful alpha assishness and through forgiveness and love of a good woman. His character growth melted my heart.. his possessiveness and romantic loving side was sweet to finally see.. and it was his love that saves the day in this emotional rollercoaster of his own creation. However, he’s not the only enemy in this shattered story.. with fear, bloodshed, terror and a well-sprung trap on the horizon things get heavy, heated, heartfelt and hot fast as high alert turns to horror and hunger.

Worth a credit? Definitely.. I always ‘one click’ you Ava and you never ever disappoint as I “one more chapter” your deliciously addictive stories into the first few hours of the next day. And here you’ve blown me away with feels, fiery friction, tantalizing tension, toxically-fuelled combustible chemistry, suspense and gripping drama and love, forgiveness and the strength of a good woman who saw beyond the masked shell of a monster. PLUS, the spectacular and very skilled dual POV narration by Vanessa and Jason (.. 💕 u J) meant the whole story came alive, had a pulse and a heartbeat and brought clear mental images I loved watching play out.

Fantastic slow burn, enemies to lovers done right!

Ava Harrison just gave us the best slow burn, enemies-to-lovers romance this year! Absolutely could not believe the hatred I felt for Trent for the first half of this book, seeing him take his anger out on Payton. How she handled all he dished out with grace was a testament to what women have to do every day to survive some of the stupid stuff men do in the name of power and payback.

But this isn't just hatred - this is lust at first sight, too! The amount of angsty slow burn that they feel for each other is palpable from the moment they lay eyes on each other. Trent and Payton's internal dialogue is so filled with desire it leaps off the page. Their banter ratchets up the hunger they feel and you just want them to keep it going because it's so enjoyable.

Payton is the heart and strength to this story and when all the puzzle pieces come together Trent finds his way to the passion he has felt for her & it's beautiful watching them fall into love. And of course it wouldn't be an Ava Harrison book without the maniacal twist that only she can write. HOLY HECK OF A LAST FEW CHAPTERS!!!

The only way this book got better - well, the audio is with superstars of Romancelandia Vanessa Edwin and Jason Clarke. Talk about performances!!! Jason brings all his growly, deep voiced lechery to Trent & then is able to transition perfectly when multiple characters are in a scene together. But stop the presses for Vanessa Edwin!!!! Woman gave a performance class in this book with how she voiced not only Payton and her bestie, but the sister and her side of Trent's convos. ALL THE AWARDS TO VANESSA PLEASE!!!

All the love and stars!

LOVED IT, absolutely loved Trent & Payton. This is another fantastic book by Ava Harrison and the audio performances are superb. This story grips you from the start and holds you in suspense until the end, as again, Ava puts twists in there you don´t see coming. She also gives us a delicious slow burn that has two damaged souls go from loathing each other to become more than they expect.

There is a line in the book “love and hate are two sides of the same coin”, which is very true, and I had a lot of emotions running through me. In the beginning, I despised Trent and had a lot of anger towards him which later turned into a lotta love but he was being a mega alpha hole for at least half of the story. He has nothing but contempt for his dad and is, out for revenge, trying to make life hell for the one person who is the most innocent.

Payton Hart, love her character, she is feisty and although I felt her angst and frustration, I also felt her strength and determination of not giving up. She had a lot to deal with in her life already and it does not seem to stop as due to circumstances Trent is controlling everything and literally having her future in his hands, but Payton just knows how to give as good as she gets and you can look forward to a lot of explosive, sarcastic as well as sexy, lusting banter between these two.

And to top this already captivating story off, Vanessa Edwin and Jason Clarke take you on this aural journey and WOW do they deliver. Vanessa´s performance is absolutely stunning, her imitation of each character and how she gives them personalities is just outstanding. And, oh Jason Clarke, he always raises goosebumps with his variety of raspy growls, and he gives every character their own individual spin. Whereas Jason´s female voice makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, Vanessa´s male voice makes me melt and swoon. Charismatic, mesmerizing and powerful performances by both!

Great!

I really enjoyed this book and now I’m going to go back and re-listen to some of the previous books because I recognized all of the characters but don’t remember the details of all of their stories.

Great Book!

What a surprise to find out you inherited $22 million. Peyton's sister was pissed because she thought it should be hers since she was sleepung with Trent's father even though she knew he had a family. She also knew that his father tried to sell his daughter Ivy. Peyton's sister was a sorry excuse for a human even though she raised her. Trent sold Peyton's house right out from under her and stopped paying her tuition. Since she cannot collect the money until her next birthday, Trent made her live with him. He did not believe she didn't sleep with his horrible father and was determined to find out. What a wild ride this book was. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved how everything worked out in the end but would have loved to hear more about Peyton, Trent and her sister. I also love how characters from previous appear in the story. The ending felt a little rushed. Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin did a great job with the narration.

OMG!!! THE WHIRLWIND OF EMOTIONS!!!

Peyton and Trent were two of my favorite characters! They loved so completely it made them blind to other possibilities. I honestly just wanted to reach out and hug Peyton. She got dealt one of the worst hands in life ever! Both narrators brought on a spectacular performance bringing these characters to life!

More Than Five Stars

Ava Harrison is becoming one of my favorite authors, not only are her books fantastic, but her audiobooks are out of this world! Jason Clark, and especially Vanessa Edwin were superb in narrating this book.

I have always loved the enemies to lovers Romance, but this one had an incredible twist to it that left my jaw dropped at the end of the story. Trent was easy to hate, but at the same time easy to admire. He is everything you would want in a book boyfriend. He is controlling, rude, unfair, but there’s something about him that draws you to him. He is just plain hot!

Payton, on the other hand, has a kindness about her. She lived to give to others rather than herself. She was patient with her bratty sister. She was patient with Trent.
I loved all the times she teased him because it would drive him crazy. She even one Trent‘s staff over with her kindness and her ability to laugh. I liked her spunk, without her being a pushover. Ava knows how to create these amazing characters that you root for in the end. I love the fact that she includes former characters without giving any information away that would ruin their stories. You don’t even have to read these books in a certain order. She also knows how to pick the best narrators for her characters.

If you’re a fan of audiobooks, I definitely recommend you listening to this one. If you love her books, this just brings it to the next level.

Absolutely Loved It!!!

This audio is so incredibly good! The enemy’s to lovers is a long, delectable slope of anger, resentment, curiosity, to trying to escape the undeniable chemistry and attraction that Trent and Payton have for each other. But the absolute best part is the laugh out loud moments with Payton. Her internal monologue and banter with her best friend is some of the most genuine writing I’ve heard/seen. As usual Ava Harrison takes a slow burn to an all new level for an explosive match between these two! And of course the angst and twists are there to lead to the best ending. It also doesn’t hurt that Cyrus has come out to play!

I love Jason Clarke he is my favorite male narrator but Vanessa Edwin was outstanding as Payton. She was able to capture all of her personality, inflection and her humor. So well done!

This is a SLOW burn

Ok, I will start with saying this was well written. And on a whole the story was ok. My main issue was that the dialogue seemed really repetitive. I cannot tell you how many times the inner dialogue was the same thoughts over and over!! And I am fine with a slow burn...but there was still little to no steam at chapter 39 of 50. At that point Trent and Payton have only kissed. And to be fair...that is 100% personal preference. I like both Payton and Trent. But this story didn't draw me in like I hoped it would. So, for me, this one was just OK.
