About this listen

Loulou Landers is about to turn forty-nine and she's feeling seriously overlooked. She hasn't had a relationship for twenty years, her 21-year-old daughter Theo is giving her the cold shoulder, and is that really a bunion making it so painful to walk, or is Christian Louboutin losing his touch? Theo can't see what her mum is so hung up about. It's only another birthday. And she has more important things to think about - mainly herself. For not only is Loulou permanently single, but so is Theo - despite her legendary good looks. But over the course of a summer, everything changes. Two men set out to get both women back in the love game. The only problem is that both mother and daughter keep their burgeoning romances secret from each other. Because, in each case, there's a thirty-year age difference. And that's only one of the issues.©2010 Maggie Alderson (P)2010 Bolinda Publishing Contemporary Fiction Genre Fiction

Critic Reviews

"At last we've found her, the female Seinfeld. Warm, witty, wise and well-dressed, Alderson is the haute couture of humour." (Kathy Lette)

This book is a let down. The “age inappropriate” hook ups are the most interesting elements. The daughter is such a vile little brat the whole way through that when she finally comes good on the last page it’s too late, you can’t forgive her. Then there’s her mother Loulou who is so desperate for her daughter’s love that she lets Theo treat her like something she stepped in.
This story isn’t helped by the narrator who is fine for Loulou but dreadful for Theo. She uses such a slow and whiny voice for the daughtet I almost quit after the first few chapters.
Maybe try reading this book…if it’s free…or you find it in the library, but don’t waste your money on it. There are so many other better Maggie Alderson books to enjoy.

Disappointing…don’t bother

Thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns of this story. Reminded me of my daughter and me.

Good fun!
