Publisher's Summary

Do you think that normal training sessions can be difficult? Teaching the dog to sit, stay, down, come, and heel all require weeks of dedicated effort on the part of you and your dog. In contrast to this, it can take many months and sometimes years to train service dogs such as police, search and rescue, and guide dogs.

Here, you’ll find out the easiest way to train your own service dog alongside the duration of the training and what the minimum requirements are.

Service dogs are becoming more and more accepted as a way for disabled people to regain some of their independence and abilities. And even recently it has been shown that children with autism can also benefit from having a service dog. These types of dogs are so valuable, and so much time has gone into training them.

Effective service dogs training cannot be implemented without a clear strategy and well developed plan. While just about anyone can train dogs and get their household dog to respond reasonably in most everyday situations, training a dog for service is very different.

NO RESEARCH NO EXPERTISE

Based on what I've read I'm going to say that the author's level of expertise is he owned a dog or two and trained it adequately enough, probably with help. He doesn't have the expertise to teach anyone else how to do it. Not had he filled in the gaps with research. The book is based on alpha theory which was debunked in the 1970s and had been shown to create aggressive dogs.
It is written at a third grade level. I'm not sure if he thinks disabled people are only smart enough to comprehend a third grade level, if it's something specifically aimed at people with cognitive deficits, or if in fact it was written by a 3rd grader (if it was that's pretty awesome, but still, don't use the book to train your dog). This is bad information even by just basic children's new dog book standards. The narration is also not great.

Having said all this I applaud the author for recognizing that there is demand for books on this topic and capitalizing on it. I'd have more money if I was the type of person who could do that, lack of expertise be damned.

Try buying Teamwork I & II instead (not on audio, but better). Even Max Matthews version of this book (same title different book) is better and it's pretty bad too.

I'm returning this, bad advice is worse than no advice.

Misleading Title

this is NOT about how to train a service dog at all. it is about what service dogs can be used for ans a little about the laws but not about how to train
