About this listen

Cassy smiled, blew them a kiss. ‘See you in September,’ she said. It was a throwaway line. Just words uttered casually by a young woman in a hurry. And then she’d gone.

It was supposed to be a short trip – a break in New Zealand before her best friend’s wedding. But when Cassy waved goodbye to her parents, they never dreamed that it would be years before they’d see her again. Having broken up with her boyfriend, Cassy accepts an invitation to stay in an idyllic farming collective. Overcome by the peace and beauty of the valley and swept up in the charisma of Justin, the community’s leader, Cassy becomes convinced that she has to stay.

As Cassy becomes more and more entrenched in the group’s rituals and beliefs, her frantic parents fight to bring her home – before Justin’s prophesied Last Day can come to pass.

A powerful story of family, faith and finding yourself, from this hugely compelling author.

These people seemed like family and the story was riveting. Good ending. I looked forward to hearing what happened next each time I was in my car - sorry when it ended

loved the story, would have been better with a NZ barrator to pronounce the Maori names correctly.

Loved the story but it was so hard to listen to as a NZer, the Māori pronunciation was so bad I had trouble understanding at times. A real shame because I loved the story.

Great but terrible narration

Great story, but really needed a Kiwi narrator or some education on Te Reo Maori as the pronunciation of Maori words is incorrect.
A real shame and very jarring for kiwi listeners.

Maori words not pronounced correctly

A really thought provoking, well researched story. If you can look past a few mispronounced words here and there, it’s a very enjoyable listen. Highly recommend!

Story okay. Kiwi accent was terrible and pronunciation of Māori words and place names was atrocious

Don’t listen to this if you are a kiwi

Please narrators, if you are unfamiliar with another language, check the pronunciations before you record. Te Reo is easily spoken with vowels like Japanese and French.

Disappointing pronunciation, good story

Dual points of view worked really well. Good narration.

Compelling!

A great story and very well written but the bad pronunciation is very off-putting.

Terrible pronunciation

I loved the story, unfortunately as someone who hears the Maori words pronounced correctly frequently I could not get over the butchering of a beautiful language.
I knew I loved the book as had read the paperback book years back and was needing something to listen to in the background so thought I was on to a winner.

Great story, wished for correct pronouniation
