About this listen

Nell Gunn, Snowball and Esther will be back, along with more characters from Britain's biggest beauty factory, as they battle the twists and turns of war in Stratford.

Will Nell find lasting love? Will Snowball reveal what forced him onto the streets? And will Esther be able to tame the wild child she takes under her wing as part of her new bursary? As flowers and vegetables blossom in the Shoot's new Dig for Victory allotment, can the inhabitants really bury their pasts?

Praise for Secrets of the Lavender Girls:
As warm, welcome and inviting as a cuppa on a cold day
Another of Kate's wonderful stories with a twisty plot, warm-hearted characters, with laughter, secrets and heartbreak - and bursting with fascinating detail. A really great read
Kate Thompson has brought to life a remarkable story and in loving detail too . . . an absolute joy!
A fabulous read that both entertains and educates! A wonderfully written, heart-felt novel . . . The historical research which has gone into this novel jumps off the pages. A riveting and wonderful read
The way Kate Thompson writes . . . made me feel that I was reading about old friends. I just had to keep the pages turning. I am sure that before long her readers will be clamouring for more
Marvellous, full of gutsy characters I immediately empathized with
The remarkable story of the women who ruled the East End through the Blitz. A lively authentic social history, the book centres around five formidable working-class women . . . a hair-raising, but always warmhearted tale

Took me back to some really dark and painful times that folk went through during the war...how they survived and kept their spirits, while their friend and family were killed....made me thankful that I have not had to live the same...we are so lucky...the detail that the author provided and story each character had and how they all linked..
great work....
