About this listen

Audiobook 7 in the Dawn of Fire Series

Fleet Secundus marches toward the Eye of Terror, ready to strike at the heart of the Archenemy. However, a battle for survival awaits as the greater schemes of the Indomitus Crusade descend into treachery and intrigue.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

It's a jaw-dropping entry in the Dawn of Fire series, as the Indomitus Crusade prepares to take the fight to the heart of Abaddon's warpsworn empire.

THE STORY

The mighty fleets of the Indomitus Crusade face terrors and dangers beyond imagining. As Guilliman's crusade marches forth, bringing the Emperor's light to thousands of worlds, Fleet Secundus is headed for the darkest dark – the Eye of Terror itself.

Along with warriors of the Adepta Sororitas and the Adeptus Astartes, the Imperial Navy battle cruiser Judgement of the Void pushes deeper into contested space. But as their journey unfolds, the forces of Chaos close in, and a battle for survival is about to begin – one which has ramifications not just for Fleet Secundus, but for the future of the galaxy itself.

Bit of a slow start but it leaves you guessing as to who or what is the enemy.

A true descent to Chaos

Loved the clear characters, motivations and use of the 40k universe. Explains what it needs to to create suspense while keeping the rest enigmatic.

Great stand alone horror tale

This book is phenomenal, it has no right being in such an awful series. The narration and story are both stellar.

This Book is too Good for Dawn of Fire

I think people feast or famine with Chris' writing, but for a novel which has the set up of a bottle episode, he does such a good job keeping it engaging all the way through.

Dawn of Fire isn't always the most loved series, but I think it's the sort of thing you could give to someone to read who is getting into 40k. Think about it... how much more insane is the interex conflict in HH if you've listened to this? And so, I think this story is great because it gives us a glimpse at inquisition, sororitas and astartes members dropping the ball, which is fairly unusual.

This era is great. The way it contrasts the early lore and HH/SOT. The early lore feels like reading about world war 1 and 2 from today's perspective, recent enough, but also kinda different. A different world we have started accelerating away from. The 30k stuff is like reading about Rome or Greece, where it's all a bit kind of mystical and the Olympians are just running around with the mortals. The caprice of Gods and the intentions of great leaders are at odds, and so the powers take sides. The Indomidus crusade, on the other hand, is more like our world today... people pay the old ways lip service, but there is a more gritty pragmatism behind the scenes. Ideology is merely expedient rather than actually believed by many spouting these ideas from their positions of power. This is why strange bedfellows are abound at this time. There is a reason the worst book so far has been the one with the Black Templars, they fail to fully appreciate the reality of the situation and it makes them seem very out of touch and almost childlike, which in itself is telling of the way that the imperium is changing. This book does a great job capturing this aspect of the setting.

Chris Wraight does it again.
