Dervis Aksay växer upp i en liten by i Turkiet. Hans pappa jobbar i Tyskland och är sällan hemma. Dervis saknar manliga förebilder och tillvaron är fylld av våld och höga krav. Vid 18 års ålder forceras han in i giftermål och hamnar hos hårt kontrollerande svärföräldrar - i Sverige. Äktenskapet är kärlekslöst och livet outhärdligt. Dervis bryter sig loss och försöker stå på egna ben men hamnar snart i en karusell av droger och kriminalitet. Efter fängelsestraff och självmordsförsök gör Dervis ett sista försök att ta sig ur den destruktiva spiralen och startar föreningen Vision Center Sweden som arbetar med att förebygga kriminalitet. Genom att vara en bra förebild för andra lyckas han till sist vända sitt liv.
