Publisher's Summary

Cassie Forrest isn't surprised to learn that the day she’s decided to get her life together is also the day the world ends. After all, she’s been on a self-imposed losing streak since her survivalist parents died: she’s stopped painting, broken off her engagement to Adrian and dated a real jerk. Rectifying her mistakes has to wait, however, because Cassie and her friends have just enough time to escape Brooklyn for her parents’ cabin before Bornavirus LX turns them into zombies, too. This is difficult enough, but Cassie’s tag along ex-boyfriend and her friend’s bratty sister have a knack for making everything, even the apocalypse, more unpleasant. When the two attract a threat as deadly as the undead to their safe haven, Cassie’s forced to see how far she’ll go to protect those she loves. And it’s a lot farther than she’d anticipated. This, coupled with Adrian’s distant voice on Safe Zone Radio and, of course, the living dead, threaten to put Cassie right back into the funk she just dragged herself out of. Survival’s great and all, especially when you have leather armor, good friends and home-brewed beer, but there’s something Cassie must do besides survive: tell Adrian she still loves him. And to do that, Cassie has to find faith that she’s stronger than she thinks, she’s still a crack shot and true love never dies.

Outstanding!

This was such a great story, a real adventure. The characters are so real that I cried and laughed with them. The zombies are a mournful lot and there was suspense and twists and turns galore.
Fabulous narrator, very versatile.
Loved it!

An excellent melding of narrator and story

I've listened to a lot of post-apocalyptic stories here and elsewhere, and there are a range of established tropes that you can come to expect. The heroes of the story face the confused phase where the virus turns out to be real, then the escape where things can and will go wrong, then it's basic survival followed by the outbreak of savagery amongst the survivors, the altering of the environment and finding a new normal.

While this is a story that includes all of those elements, what I was not expecting was how well the author captured the feeling and motives of a group finding themselves in a survival situation. This is not a zombie apocalypse story. This is a human story that's set within the apocalypse, and they're characters that you can really get to know and love over the course of the book. Their actions are real and there's no moments that had me wondering what the hell the people are doing.

As a side note, I picked up the novella 'so long lollipops' as my intro to the series, but despite it being set somewhat after the main story, it didn't cause too many spoilers for me. It is probably best to start with this book, but if you haven't it's not a big deal. I thoroughly recommend this book.

so good

So refreshing to read a zombie book where it isn't all about gratuitous violence. As a 35 year old man who has had enough violence I his life, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed spending a day or two on this. Great stuff

LOVED IT ... Has it all

This book has it all and was so well constructed also like that it stands alone as a story on it's own and does not need the next instalments although I can't wait to get into the next two books. The narrator was great and did so well although sometimes the mens voices did sound the same but that is minor considering she had so many to narrate. Love how we got to know everyone so easily without effort and felt like I was right with them the whole way through ..laughed, cried and felt the triumph and love for all .. well done.

Great Zombie story

I love a good zombie story and this one doesnt dissapoint. Walking dead fans, I recommend it! A little teenagerish in places, and in others, I quite disliked the main character due to her actions, but the story overall is great and i would recommend it higly!

Good Zombie Story

I really loved the story but found some of it hard to listen to because of the voices the narrator put on. Undecided if i will listen too or read the next book for this reason.

It was a great story and i can not wait to start the next.

Great story & fabulous narration.

Was recommended this book/series from a friend and not being a big Zombie story lover was a bit hesitant. That said, I loved the story, the characters and the pace of the book. Great narration also. Thoroughly enjoyable and would highly recommend.
