Story
On a desolate beach in far northern Scotland, the winter storms have been washing up all manner of things since time began. But buried in the centre of one smaller iceberg is a shard of ancient Viking pottery telling a partial tale of a hidden mysterious island beyond the ice and mist, that was home to a great treasure and even greater horrors. Thawing in the same block of ice was a rotting flap of skin that refused to be identified but had similar skin patterns to a creature not seen for 100 million years.

Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer, wakes upon an altar to find himself incarnated into the overweight body of a farmer who could have been his fatter twin. He’s not the hero. He’s not the villain. He’s certainly not the chosen one who is there to save the world. He’s a clerical error. It could be a bad joke, but apparently, it happens so often that they have a standard procedure for returning you.

Good quick listen.
This book is in some ways a slight departure from the “normal” Matthew Reilly, but in the most important ways it is a classic MR. While all his books could be described as reality based fiction, events happen in our historical timeline, but with fictional events (Princess Bess going to a chess tournament in Constantinople, the events in both the Scarecrow & Jack West Jnr series), this story contains “fantasy” creatures. So far we do not have archeological evidence of the existence of Trolls, although there is the excerpt in the start of the book explaining one person’s thought about what a Troll could have been. In form though there is still the continual movement, the constant pressure, both internal (wanting to save the last of his family from illness/death) & external (fighting to survive/defeat the Troll army to save his “tribe”) on the hero, to continue doggedly to the end.
Overall, It has been one of the last books I have downloaded, mainly because of the shorter length versus cost issue, but that hasn’t affected my enjoyment of this book, I just won’t use it as bedtime listening (I like books that continue through 8 hours minimum, to block hubby’s snoring) because of the length.

Outstanding. A book for the whole family to listen to.
Yet another outstanding book by Mathew Reilly.
While this book was shorter than usual, it did not lack in story. I reveled in the complex nuances that are weaved throughout this book.
Trolls, who but Mathew Reilly could write about a young princess in one book, military action in another, an archeology series & then back it up with a book about Trolls. Shhhhh, I just read/listened to The Great Zoo of China (my new favourite book of all time, all about dragons). Talk about a devisee writer. What will he write next???
What didn't I like? That it wasn't longer.
Would I recommend it? Damn straight I would.
Thanks Mathew for making my imagination fly with amazing possibilities.
