Publisher's Summary

Sequestered in the blackness of the dreaded Tower of High Sorcery in Palanthas, surrounded by nameless creatures of evil, Raistlin Majere weaves a plan to conquer the darkness - to bring it under his control.

Crysania, a beautiful and devoted cleric of Paladine, tries to use her faith to lead Raistlin from the darkness. She is blind to his shadowed designs, and he draws her slowly into his neatly woven trap.

Made aware of Raistlin’s plan, a distraught Caramon travels back in time to the doomed city of Istar in the days before the Cataclysm. There, together with the ever-present kender Tasslehoff, Caramon will make his stand to save Raistlin’s soul.

Or so he believes.

Disappointing.

Did not like the narrator and some of the pronunciation of the names or places but if you want the whole story it needs to be listened to.

Excellent story but awful narrator

Best read after the first Dragonlance trilogy beginning with Dragons of Autumn Twilight. The narrator for that first trilogy was excellent but for these next 3 novels the narrator is awful; flat, lacking expression, monotonous, and with inconsistent pronunciation. One extremely irritating aspect of this narrator is that many critical characters names are butchered. For example, when a character Tasslehoff Burrfoot's name is shortened to Tas as it tends to be in the novel the narrator pronounces it "Toz." He also says "RASTlin" in place of "Raistlin" and "Strum" instead of "Sturm" which will drive any lover of the Dragonlance books nuts.

There's also some background hiss or static that becomes irritating.

This and the next two books in the Twins Dragonlance series need to be redone with the narrator who did a good job with Chronicles to narrate these.

The first 6 Dragonlance books are brilliant but only the initial three have been narrated to a good standard. The poor narration for the Twins Dragonlance series just makes a wonderful story seem flat and uninteresting. If you want to enjoy the Dragonlance books read them on Kindle or hardcopy and avoid the audiobooks after the first 3 in the series.

very good

my only gripe is that this narrator used different pronunciation for a lot of the characters and places than the narrator of the previous books (I don't know who is more correct) but that inconsistency irked me the whole book.

Brings back memories of my youth.

Still, like all the Dragonlance books one that can be cherished reading or now listened to.

Good book, poor narration

Enjoyed the book, however the lacklustre narration, inconsistent pronunciation, and zero attempt to alter voices even slightly to help distinguish who was speaking to whom, really let this down for me.

Good story but bad narration

A good story that brought back memories, but the narration was bland, monotoned and lack lustred.

It is probably the worst narration of audiobooks I have heard

Disappointing

When Raistlin was pronounced as Rastlin at the start I was a little concerned. Thankfully the pronunciation was corrected. But Tars? Thank Paladine Fizbarn, or Fizbon and Strum Brightblade aren't featured heavily. I will listen to War and Test because it's a great trilogy but it's hard work.
