"Great part 2 of the trilogy"

I've read the book before and was looking forward to listening to the Audible version - especially having enjoyed Part 1 so much.
I took too long to listen to this book end to end, which impacted my overall enjoyment. That said the narration is second to none and the story finishes perfectly...setting the scene for Part 3 Looking forward to hearing that.

Second in the set, and still going strong.
Usually a writer will start to lose his way after the first book if too epic. But in this case he has improved on his original style and rounded it even further. Without using the same formula as the first.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not offer a strong recommendation, as I only enjoyed the early to mid stages of the book before the story line took a disappointing turn. The book started really well 4 star but then declined to 2 star at the end.

What could Justin Cronin have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The characters in the first part of this book were awesome one new character in particular (last stand in Denver) that does not give to much away but this part of the book was really good. If the author could have incorporated this into book one the Passage then the Passage would be 4-5 star

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favourite?

Can't remember his name but he was the character that "last stand in Denver" was based on awesome character.

Did The Twelve inspire you to do anything?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

My Journey now ends this the sequel overall though I enjoyed the Experience of the Passage and first half of The Twelve. Thanks to The author.

    "Glad it's in Audio"

I'm intrigued by the characters and storyline but struggle to say I'm enjoying this trilogy. I will definitely finish it...I can't make up my mind whether it the heavyness of the story or just the narrator who makes it feel that way. As much as I want to know what happens I think by the end I will say thank goodness that's over...very dark...probably not my normal genre...I find I'm frowning while listening. ..would never have ploughed through this on paper.

    "'Viral' post-apocalyptic adventure #2."

At the end of reading 'The Passage', part one of Justin Cronin's triology, there was no doubt that I would immediately buy 'The Twelve' and I was not disappointed. The Twelve picks up where The Passage left of and continues the adventure at the same pace and excitement as the first book. This time the story is brought to a satisfying conclusion, or more accurately, a satisfying resting point, while setting the scene for the finale, 'The City of Mirrors'. I'm waiting impatiently...

"A quality writer and a great plot!"

I was a huge fan of The Passage so was awaiting the release of the next installment with great enthusiasm. The Twelve did not dissapoint, it delivered with regards to both plot and character development. The writing was magnificent and the performance was excellent, which only enhanced the story and made this one of the most pleasurable experiences I have had with an audio book.

"Not especially surprising end to this series"

This book really added very little to the first. It wasn't full of surprises, rather it just rounded out what we thought would happen after the first book ended.

Narrator - The narrator did quite well with no serious inconsistencies with accents and so forth. I felt that the narrator did nothing to add to the story but did nothing to detract from it either.

Story - Fairly mundane to tell the truth. It sometimes felt like the author got a little lost with his characters. Some of the characters appeared to behave in ways that did not ring true. Having said that I am glad that I finished the series.

"Still doesn't know what it wants to be"

I reviewed the first book in this series and my conclusion was that it didn't know what it wanted to be. It started out as a mystery thriller with suspense, action and well developed characters. It was interesting. Then it turned into a Mad Max with zombie vampires, and shallow characters. This books goes even further. It has flash-backs to the 'present day' of the first book. Here characters start to get interesting again, and it's like Justin Cronin is back on his own turf. But then you are taken forward to the time period of the second half of the first book. However, now it starts to become more of a fantasy setting, with super humans and sorceresses and fairy tale loyal horses and what have you. At the same time it's a 1984 Big Brother setting with a V for Vendetta coating, or perhaps it is a concentration camp story. The characters that seemed interesting have become caricatures of despotic leaders and their actions and motifs are very much a cliché. Again ther rule change. Suddenly humans can assimilate some of the vampire powers, and become dictators. The vampires are not that much of a threat really and they can all be easily wiped out. Humans are the true threat to humanity. Whaaat?

In this book Scott Brick's over-dramatic narration felt more at home, or perhaps the constant change of story line made me oversee the narration.

Why did I listen to the second book of a series I apparently do not like very much. Well, there is still something to it, so I have to give it a pass with three out of five.

"A worthy follow up to The Passage"
What made the experience of listening to The Twelve the most enjoyable?

Scott Brick brings life to each of the characters so you can just lose yourself in them and the story.

What did you like best about this story?

A great follow on from the 1st book.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He's Mr Audiobook. No other narrarter seems to bring the depth of narration to books that he does.

"Flawless performance of a fantastic book"

Flyers! Where to start with my review? Firstly, Scott Brick is an excellent narrator. He brings characters to life, he creates images in my mind that I wouldn't particularly get from reading the book.

Secondly, I have never cried over a book before... until now. I feel a deep connection with the characters and even on my second read through I cried at the second to last chapter of The Twelve.

In preparation for the third and final book (which has been released today) I have listened back through The Passage and The Twelve and both have been just as good, if not better than the first time I listened to them.

Definitely my favourite book trilogy of all time.

"Glad I made it to the end!"

With the first book I found that after part 1 I didn't want to read anymore, it felt like it had 'finished' (without giving too much away!) The middle part was really slow as you had to learn about the new characters, and then it got better again towards the end!
With this book I liked the fact that it went back in to the past and you got to learn more things about what had happened, but I really struggled to find the enthusiasm to finish it!
I have already purchased book three and look forward to reading it!

I found this book harder and the 1st, it started off better but I got a bit lost with the amount of characters and lost my way a little. Now it was still good and I finished it in a week, but I'm not as excited to start the last book... after investing 60hours of life I feel I have to! Although I have other books in my list I would prefer to start, so this isn't a good sign. Onward regardless...
