Story
From the internationally best-selling author of the Sword of Truth series comes a new Richard and Kahlan novella. "They are the monsters under the bed when you are little, the shape just caught out of the corner of your eye when you thought you were alone, the shadow of something in a dark corner that surprises you and then isn't there. They stop you dead with a knot of unexpected terror in the pit of your stomach. I think that the star shift has brought us closer to their realm so that they now have the power to step into our world and hurt us."

Story
It would be sheer folly to try to conceal the true nature of Althalus, for his flaws are the stuff of legend. He is, as all men know, a thief, a liar, an occasional murderer, an outrageous braggart, and a man devoid of even the slightest hint of honor. Yet of all the men in the world, it is Althalus, unrepentant rogue and scoundrel, who will become the champion of humanity in its desperate struggle against the forces of an ancient god determined to return the universe to nothingness.

Publisher's Summary
From the internationally best-selling author of the Sword of Truth series, comes a new Richard and Kahlan novel, sequel to The Omen Machine.
The bloodthirsty Jit is dead, and against all odds Richard and Kahlan have survived. But a new menace has attacked them in the Dark Lands. Infected with the essence of death itself, robbed of his power as a war wizard, Richard must race against time to uncover and stop the infernal conspiracy assembling itself behind the wall far to the north.
His friends and allies are already captives of this fell combination, and Kahlan, also touched by death's power, will die completely if Richard fails. Bereft of magic, Richard has only his sword, his wits, his capacity for insight - and an extraordinary companion, the young Samantha, a healer just coming into her powers.
Compelling, fast-moving, and intense, The Third Kingdom is a powerful tale that welcomes new listeners to Terry Goodkind's world, while opening up new vistas of world building for long-time fanss of the adventures of Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell.

Richard and Kahlan
I love this series just so much and with Terry Goodkind passing on September 17, I was heartbroken and crushed. I'm glad he gave us all one more book before be left to be with the good spirits.

This story appeared forced!
What did you like best about The Third Kingdom? What did you like least?
I'm a terry Goodkind fan and even though this story is not his usual best I still enjoyed it. There's enough in this to resemble his usual novel this novel appears overly contrived with a let of ideas borrowed
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Simply not enough to have evil vs good kind of story to make a good fantasy book. The story needs to be more believable!
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The performance is reasonable and Sam has read previous novels from terry Goodkind.
Did The Third Kingdom inspire you to do anything?
None
Any additional comments?
I just wish that terry would give his novels more thought as the stories of Kahlam and Richard are getting a little forced.

Disappointed
I feel that too much emphasis on the graphic gore and cannibalism than the story itself. Feel the book list it's way a little after some excellent previous books in the series.

if you want more of the same, welll here you go
very similar style to much of his previous writing, without coming anywhere close to the quality of the first 6 books. Some of the conversations between 2 characters feel like they go for paragraphs longer than necessary as they each describe the same thing 4 slightly different ways. The reading is competent, quite good in some places but fallung a bit flat in others.
The story has some nice moments in it (I won't spoil) but there's nothing new here. If you love his stuff then you get to hang out in this world for a while longer. Seems fine.
