Publisher's Summary
For too long had the Vth Legion ranged out beyond the sight of the wider Imperium, remaining ignorant of the Warmaster's rebellion and the war that inevitably followed.
Only once their primarch, Jaghatai Khan, had satisfied himself that the path before them was just and true did the White Scars choose a side, taking the fight to the traitors on every front. But, four years later, the Legion's unfettered spirit has been broken by relentless attritional warfare against the Death Guard and the Emperor's Children - the Khan's Stormseers must find a clear route to Terra if they are to take part in the final, apocalyptic battle.

great book, I found listening to scars before hand made it even better. Narrator occasionally gets his accents mixed up

Best in the Heresy I've heard so far.
The final confrontation between the fifth legion and the enemy in this story is fantastic. The narrator does an excellent job.

Great story for sure. Narration okay.
Well then... For sure a great story. Follows on from Scars. Must read. Though unfortunately I was let down by the narration compared to previous narrators.

The Story was betrayed by a poor choice of voices
The story itself is great, it portrays the sense of weariness the Scars feel after 4 years in the heresy. It shows just how far the emperors children have fallen. It even has a few good Death Guard moments, although Wraight’s Mortarion is inconsistent.
But all this is smothered by the jarring change in voice actors. The voices that fit the cast of the lords of silence so well feels out of place coming from a white scar.
Of course since even the White Scars have they voices of plague marines, Mortarion himself, despite being yet uncorrupted (if you ignore Wraight attempting to screw up the timing of the fall) he sounds like a desecrated plague zombie with his vocal cords knitted around a vibrator

Bland and uninspired
This was an absolute slog to get through. It’s 13 hours but it felt like 20. The writing style features excessive adjectives which cause the listener to drift off. This happened to me repeatedly. In a book that is mostly dialogue, this is a big issue. Too many white Scars characters, of which almost none have any kind of personality. It also doesn’t help that the narrator has the same voice for them all. The book is mostly about the White Scars with a brief break to introduce the baddies (Emperors Children and the Deathguard). If I wasn’t fond of the scars before, I definitely like them less now. Even the wise Primarch Jaghatai Kahn is reduced to a bumbling moron who contradicts himself constantly and is wracked by indecision along with the rest of his legion.
I think there is about 1 hour of interesting material in here. There is a good interaction between Lord Commander Eidolon and Mortarion showing the ever-enduring arrogance of the Emperors Children. Alas, this is brief before the listener is put back to sleep.
DO NOT listen to this book because…
it adds nothing to the HH timeline or gives any weight to why the White Scars have sat on the sidelines of the heresy for so long. You will not find those answers here.
