Story
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Macbeth: A Novel brings the intricacy and grit of the historical thriller to Shakespeare’s tale of political intrigue, treachery, and murder. In this full-length novel written exclusively for audio, authors A. J. Hartley and David Hewson rethink literature’s most infamous married couple, grounding them in a medieval Scotland whose military and political upheavals are as stark and dramatic as the landscape in which they are played.

Women in the Arthur legend.
The power struggle between the old religions and the beginnings of Christianity set in the context of the loss of autonomy for women is thought provoking. The legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table is fleshed out and given a depth of setting and circumstances as well as a new perspective. The characters are finely drawn and the themes are intriguing. I thoroughly enjoyed this book when I first read it some 40 years ago and I’m delighted to enjoy this audible version.

I have seriously listened to this book at least 15 times (probably closer to 20) and every time I listen I love the story more. Such a creative and thought provoking version of a legend that so many people know so well. It has truly inspired me and changed my perspective on so many things.
