Publisher's Summary

While Horus' rebellion burns across the galaxy, a very different kind of war rages beneath the Imperial Palace.

The 'Ten Thousand' Custodian Guard, along with the Sisters of Silence and the Mechanicum forces of Fabricator General Kane, fight to control the nexus points of the ancient eldar webway that lie closest to Terra, infested by daemonic entities after Magnus the Red's intrusion. But with traitor legionaries and corrupted Battle Titans now counted among the forces of Chaos, the noose around the Throneworld is tightening, and none but the Emperor Himself can hope to prevail.

building to an epic finale

this story is fantastic. as HH grows closer to the end the novels become more epic in scale and dire of consequences. there's a lot of payoff from early threads and everyone has a purpose. I imagine Demski-Bowden must have felt a tremendous amount of pressure when given this mission but he pulls it off with elan. fun from beginning to end. Keeble remains my favorite narrator of all the HH narrators. bombastic and nuanced at the same time. he makes it possible to distinguish the variety of characters.

Amazing 40K story

This novel is amazingly written and beautifully voiced. It truly showed the depth of the Emperor's ambition, also shown, if how far removed from humanity he truly is. I highly recommend this for any fan of Warhammer 40k, it really does drive home The Emperor and his dream, before his son destroys it forever.

Ties many loose ends in the series.

I have read all the books up through this point, and when I saw that Keeble narrated this I had to get it. This book stands in the Required Reading part of the heresy books.

The Emperor's True Personality

It was interesting to the EoM's outlook on the Imperium...very different than how he's portrayed by most books.

Sexy Emperor

What other book might you compare The Master of Mankind to and why?

We had a few glimpses of the Emperor in books like Deliverance Lost but this one takes the cake.

What does Jonathan Keeble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jon found the sexiest possible voice for the Emperor .

Superb Insight into the Custodies & The Emperor!

Riveting and insightful. Here we learn of the exact nature of the catastrophe that Magnus the Red wrought upon the work the Emperor was attempting to carry out on a human webway.
Told from several viewpoints, a Custodian Guard, an augmented Blood Angel whom could no longer fight as his bionics are glitchy and more including a tech priest from mars who was responsible for the creation of one of warhammer 4000's most iconic vehicles, the mighty Land Raider ( bet you thought it was called that because it could raid over land! ? Not the case at all.
Master of Mankind is amongst my top five in the Horus Heresy series.
Jonathan Keeble performamce is as always at the top of his game.
Highly entertaining from start to finish.

enjoyable

was an interesting story and gave a unique perspective on the war. being based upon the emperor, he didn't get as much book space as u would have expected, however it worked well.
