Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Story
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Incredible piece of fantasy
Mindblowing... sometimes Brandon Sanderson's writing style irritates me with really repetitive phrasing or word choice and making explicit, summarising statements frequently about things that are already pretty clear, although this may be more apparent in audiobook form? Or through binging such long books in quick succession? It seems to have improved over the books in this trilogy, however - or at least as Vin had grown as a character, she doesn't shrug as an answer to everything, which helps! BUT enough griping; these little issues are nothing overall - the worldbuilding is just incredible and the story and interweaving of various plot points will stick with me forever, backed by amazing narration in the audiobook as well. Can't wait to return for a re-read.

A bit overrated
I don't know why people are so obsessed with this series. It was fine, but I think it has some serious pacing issues.
