Publisher's Summary

This is Alterra, where you can be the master of your own castle... or a field hand on a farm. And this is Jack, who wants to make his way to a different continent, hidden in the virtual mist. And this is an ancient quest line, buried under new versions of the game.

Jack's goal: create his own guild. Buy a ship. And set off on the Great Journey. The journey of his life. The dangerous Gravediggers are not the only ones opposing him. Necromancers from sinister Nightmare, elite alpha-citizens, and relic hunters are only a small fraction of the enemies that the First Player will have to face.

In the perilous Wasteland, the drifter Jack finds an abandoned truck, where an old-world game console is hidden. This moment marks the beginning of Jack's path to the lost continent, hidden in the virtual depths of the colossal Alterra. He still isn't aware of the enemies standing in his way. Not only are the guild of Gravediggers and the sinister necromancers of Nightmare against him, but also the secret masters of the game world themselves. The discoveries of ancient quest lines, long buried under new versions of the game, give Jack access to the Dark Service. This is a special branch of character development, which is no longer available in the modern version of the game.

Andrew Novak and Troy Duran strike gold

I was happy to find some more books by Andrew Novak and happier still to find out that there was at least one more volume in this series. My first dive into this world was in the book You're in Game! which was a book that had several different authors that write GameLit/LitRPG. I was hoping that story would be referenced in the novel. and it was kind of.

Strong recommendation

The story starts off surprisingly strong. With most in the style, tremendous amount of effort is put into laying the groundwork as to what’s going on. this one goes right to it allows you to slowly uncover the details. There are many twists and turns and a tremendous amount of antagonists to keep it exciting. If you like in game stories you’ll definitely like this one.

Simply amazing

This title mixed in about everything I enjoy in a fantasy novel. The post apocalyptic wasteland of reality and the complex in game reality. The narrator was perfect for the book and I have already purchased book two on kindle. I highly suggest this title to anyone interested in the genre and I can not wait till the second book reaches audio to re experience it.

Best book of this kind

Got the girl, got the levels up, and had self interest. Good writing, there wasn't any noble mission or devious plot. Wasn't trying be kiddy or gruesome just good story.

pretty good

I read a good amount of these kinds of stories. what set this apart was that I enjoyed the parts out of the game just as much as in.
