Deeply compelling story, madly talented narrator.

Forget all clichés about Stephen King. The prose of this book is colourful, the suspense tangible, and the fantastical atmosphere juxtaposed against a brutal sense of reality makes the twists all the more exciting. Moreover, I believe this narrator (Frank Muller) could do any accent he wanted; enhance all suspense intended within the words. Fantastically entertaining!

Gripping

A story that draws you in then grabs and holds on leaving you breathless, chastened and intrigued. The characters will haunt me. And a story so beautifully told each voice so right.

Such a great book!

So I wasn't sure about continuing with the Dark Tower series after The Gunslinger. It was slow, confusing and the narrator was horrible. But I decided to give the second book a couple chapters. I finished this book in a couple days. The pace is quicker, the action is better and the story instantly hooks. The narrator again was a little hard to get used to but that might just be my own preference. Definitely recommend anyone who isn't sure about continuing with the series to give this book a go before turning away. It will change your mind!

Had me hooked!

This was totally unexpected after experiencing the first book of this series but it had me hooked very quickly and I am chomping at the bit to get started on the next installment! If you are reading this review, have no doubt that Stephen King is a master of words and this will not disappoint. The narration is on point and made falling into this story such a pleasure! Frank Muller brought things to life in a way that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Obliterates Dark Tower 1

If you didn’t like Dark Tower 1 then you can’t decide that you won’t like the series. Really good depth and a completely different direction. I realised it was worth trying when I realised SK wrote DT 1 at 19 but waited 10 years before he wrote the next. Also good length if you’re looking to get good value for your credits.

Really, really good.

This is a great book. The narrator is very good. I loved the narrator from the first book and was disappointed when it changed. However, this narrator is also excellent. It's a clever tale that King has written. In another's hands it could easily have descended into cliche or silliness but avoids this easily and is thoroughly enjoyable for it.
