Story
Let's get one thing straight - Ivy Wilde is not a heroine. In fact she's probably the last witch in the world you'd call if you needed a magical helping hand, regardless of her actual abilities. If it were down to Ivy, she'd spend all day every day on her sofa, where she could watch TV, munch junk food, and talk to her feline familiar to her heart's content. However, when a bureaucratic disaster ends up with Ivy as the victim of a case of mistaken identity, she's yanked very unwillingly into Arcane Branch.

Story
Since the moment I was ripped from my mother's womb, I've been an outcast among my own kind. The Sidhe might possess magical Gifts, unbelievable wealth, and unfathomable power, but I don't want a thing to do with them. I ran away from their lands in the Highlands of Scotland when I was 11 years old, and I've never looked back. I don't need a clan. I've got my own family of highly skilled thieves who mean more to me than any Sidhe ever could.

Story
There are three absolutes in Mairi Wallace's world: 1. The Mages rule every city in Scotland with terrible, violent authority. 2. It is not physically possible for any woman to wield magic. 3. Mairi does not have a voice. She is about to learn that none of these things have to be true. From twisted wynds and tartan shops to a dangerous daemon and malevolent ravens, the future of a tattered nation might lie with one solitary woman.

Story
Plucked out of the Collector’s Pens, auctioned off to a vampire contingent, and sent across the ocean to the Alpha Territories was not exactly how I planned to spend my week. Actually, scratch that. I had planned the first bit. But I was supposed to be sold to the werewolves so I could save my friend from a fate worse than death. Instead, the bloodsuckers have me and so far? It's not going great. I've been shoved into a corset and made to look like an extra on the cast of Bridgerton, all to take part in the Harvest Games....

Story
I’m one placement away from becoming a fully fledged London detective. It’s bad enough that my last assignment before I qualify is with Supernatural Squad. But that’s nothing compared to what happens next. Brutally murdered by an unknown assailant, I wake up 12 hours later in the morgue - and I’m very much alive. I don’t know how or why it happened. I don’t know who killed me. All I know is that they might try again.

A solidly interesting series from Helen Harper
- By Paul Lloyd on 30-09-2020
Publisher's Summary
Barely recovered from her brush with necromancy, Ivy is flung once more into a world of intrigue, adventure, and potential death and disaster. It's not her fault - it just so turns out that she's now the only person in the entire world who can communicate with the dead. And they're a chatty bunch with a list of demands.
When the ghosts offer information about a witch-hating mass murderer in return for Ivy's help, she has no choice but to get involved. She might be getting herself into more trouble than she realizes, though - and that's even before she's dragged to Sunday dinner so she can meet Winter's family....

Funny and intelligent story
Loved Helen Harper. She is a brilliant writer.
The book goes through different twists and turns while Rafe and Ivy solve the mystery. Rafe and Ivy are in a more settled place but still they have a lot to learn.
If there is a negative, the story finished without the meeting of certain people. (i am not giving away the story. you have to read/listen to it). If there is a fourth book, I would love for this to happen.
Helen Harper books focus is on the characters lives more outside of the bedroom than in it. I find these books more enjoyable and intelligent reading. She still has a puts in a lot of fun and I can find myself relating to the characters.

Just as funny
Just like the first two funny and adventurous. This book was more of a murder mystery with a touch of suspense. I hope there is a next book soon

Great read
This whole series was so much fun. Great characters, a sweet romance based on friendship, enough mystery and action to keep you interested. Anyone who has a cat will recognise that ivy’s talking cat with attitude is exactly what a cat would think and say. Absolutely hilarious.

Murder mystery
While still not happy about an American narrator reading this, after two books I am used to her accent. I enjoyed this story.

Wickedly funny
Ivy is dealing with the aftermath of absorbing necromancy magic & is seeing ghosts everywhere. It doesn't help someone is killing witches & now Ivy has to get off the lounge & stop them. With her 'loyal' cat Brutus & her new love former Order witch Winter in tow, Ivy of cause gets into lots of high jinx. Ivy's also having to deal with the interference of her ex, the Order wanting Winter back & ghosts getting upset with her helping others when its not their turn. Ivy is hilarious as usual & Tanya Eby does another great job bringing her to life.

I really liked the first book but I just couldn’t continue with the series. I wish I could convince myself to continue because the first two had me laughing.
