Publisher's Summary

The mysterious, indomitable warrior? Ruthless criminal overlord? The Riel'gesh - mythical demigod? Dedicated friend and protector?

Equipped with skills far beyond those of the outworlders, Rezkin has been suddenly thrust into a foreign world. The young warrior clings to his only known purpose as he continues his search for any information about his identity and the reason for his existence.

While the hardened warrior scorns both dueling and tournaments, he believes some of the answers he seeks may be found at the King's Tournament, the greatest dueling championship in all of the kingdoms. As he searches for the elusive Striker Farson, who may be the only person alive who holds the clues, the young warrior and his friends embark on a journey fraught with danger, mystery, and intrigue.

Amid fears of the kingdom's economic collapse, rumors of an eminent military draft, and the machinations of a mad, tyrannical king, a new revelation threatens to upend all the warrior's plans.

This book is intended for adult listeners. It contains graphic violence, creative language, and sexual innuendo. This book does not contain explicit sexual content.

Made for younger readers

great storyline. I wish the author gave the duels more time and more description to them...

excellent story, female character depth lacking

I enjoy the story, but like many others think it's disgusting that every female in the story is gushing for the main character. eg, new character enters the story and within 10 sentences they're being openly suggestive about banging Rez.

if you can ignore anytime a female character is mentioned as they're one dimensional in this novel, it's a fantastic story.

Take some pointers from The Emperor's blades by Brian Staveley about female character depth

kings dark tidings

This book is one of the best books I've ever listened to. The narrator did a great job. i absolutely love Rezskin the lead character . can't wait for the next book. This is one of the best book series i have read.

Amazing Series

I downloaded this on a whim. I'm very glad I did.
the shorter nature of the books allow for a fast and furious plot with plenty of action.
The protagonist is the dark anti-hero type that I absolutely love and reminds me of others like Logan nine fingers from Joe Abercrombie's works.

very much looking forward to the third book.

Thoroughly worth the listen

A fantastic lead character and action filled plot. Intriguing with drip fed revelations but not so much so as to be frustrating or confusing. No annoying flash backs or poorly contrived dual narratives as often found in this genre.

Looking forward to book 3!

Electric

Book two of this series is a wild ride with much more intrigue and many answers to the intrigues of book one and yet you will reach the end feeling that it has come too soon - and in my case chomping at the bit for the third book.

So Disappointing!

The first book in this series was OK, so I gave the series the benefit of the doubt and bought the second book. All the worst bits of the first book were amplified in the second book. The female characters are all whiners, sullen, jealous or seductresses. This is partly the author and partly the way the narrator does female voices, I think. Every male character is patronising when talking to the women. Makes my skin crawl to think about it! In addition to this, the book was just plain boring after about the 4th chapter. Too much talking and hero worshipping. I will not be back for book 3. Disappointing misuse of what started out to as an interesting plot and main character.

guilty pleasure

I enjoy this, although the female characters are a little stereotyped. if you like following a determined and capable hero, then you will enjoy this. Quite a bit more is revealed in this story after the vagueness of the first.

Brilliant! Just couldn’t put this down!

The narrator does an incredible job of voicing the multitude of colourful characters in this story and maintains them consistently so much so that I can picture each character clearly in my head as he voices them. Already plan to get into the 3rd book straight after I submit this review!
