Story
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Leo Graf was just your average highly efficient engineer: mind your own business, fix what's wrong, and move on to the next job. But all that changed on his assignment to the Cay Habitat, where a group of humanoids had been secretly, commercially bioengineered for working in free fall. Could he just stand there and allow the exploitation of hundreds of helpless children merely to enhance the bottom line of a heartless mega-corporation?

One day, the life of a tea monk is upended by the arrival of a robot, there to honor the old promise of checking in. The robot cannot go back until the question of "what do people need?" is answered. But the answer to that question depends on who you ask, and how.

Slow paced but interesting
Set in the same universe as the Ancillary Justice books, this story is a change of pace. It's more of a political / mystery story. The characters are interesting and many turn out to be more than they seem as the story progressed. I wasn't enthralled but I was entertained and I certainly have no regrets buying this book.
If you loved Ancillary Justice trilogy you'll probably like this book.

Gripping story well told.
I like the universe Ann has created and the characters she has invented. They come to life through Adjoa’s brilliant narration. I find Ingray is a little too drippy particularly toward the end.
Another book or two about the conclave would be nice. And I want to know what a preska looks like.
Heard the series so far and will definitely continue when Ann writes the next one.

Quite a disappointment
Coming to Provenance off the back of the The Imperial Radch series, I was quite disappointed. I abandoned the book after having listened for seven hours and realising I didn't care about resuming it.

Great story annoying narrator
I loved everything about the plot and story of this book - totally caught up in it the whole time. The quality of the book helped me deal with the annoying narrator - lots of regional accents did help distinguish the various characters, but they made no sense. Why would siblings have divergent accents? Why would people from the same city not speak the same? Some accents were so over the top that they almost sounded like racist stereotypes.
