Publisher's Summary

The New York Times best-selling series based on the blockbuster Xbox® games!

While Spartans get all the glory, no soldier - not even the legendary Master Chief - wins a war on his own. Gunnery Sergeant Edward Buck and his team of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODSTs) played a major role in saving the Earth from all-out invasion at the end of the Covenant War - acts of bravery and ingenuity that did not go unnoticed by the United Nations Space Command.

Now, after many Spartans have been killed in battle, and the Master Chief is listed as MIA, the UNSC decides to create a new generation of Spartans to defend humanity from threats both outside and within. When they come to Buck with an extraordinary proposition, he is forced to make a life-altering decision. With the Covenant War finally over, is it time for him finally to retire to the sidelines for a life he could only dream about...or is he prepared to step up and become part of the military's new blood?

Awesome expansion to Alpha-Nine's story.

Buck's journey from an ODST to a Spartan was told fantastically. Links to H3 ODST make it a familiar yet exciting experience, fleshing out a multitude of classic characters featured in the Halo universe along the way.

What it becomes to be an ODST?

This book follows Buck the main man you see leading the squad in the Halo 3 expansion mini spin off game "ODST".
This is his story before, during... and afterwards with the New Mombasa incident and what happens to himself and his team after the Human-Covenant War.

It was a pretty easy to listen to this story as, it takes you on the journey. The story was pretty flat structured but enjoyable to get value from what time you have put in. It isn't a book you would return to but a once off book to explain the empty section before Halo 5: Guardians and what Edward Buck and his team get up to. It's enjoyable and performance was alright. If you like Halo Lore, you will enjoy this book. But Fall of reach is a much more interesting story to start with if you want to get into the Halo Universe books.

The story of Buck - Hero of Halo 5

Amazing insight into the character that saved Halo 5, glad they kept Buck around in the Halo Universe. Bring Back Firefly!

A nice back story

I listened to this thing in 2 days and it was really interesting. Seeing the evolution of Bucks story with Dare and how he became a spartan was quite the adventure.

Short but delicious

As a fan of the Halo Universe this was a very good listen. It's been been awhile since I listened to a really good Halo book. It had the right amount of action and intrigue. I liked how it filled me in on the Halo 3: ODST characters. My only gripe about it was it was too short.
