Publisher's Summary

An original full-length novel set in the Halo universe and based on the New York Times best-selling video game series!

Just hours following their climactic battle on the Forerunner planet Genesis, the Spartans of Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris find themselves running for their lives from the malevolent machinations of the now-renegade artificial intelligence Cortana. But even as they attempt to stay one step ahead, trouble seems to find Spartan Edward Buck no matter where he turns.

A secret mission enacted by the Office of Naval Intelligence could possibly help turn the tide, and has Buck reluctantly agreeing to reform his old team, Alpha-Nine. Because if the band is really getting back together for this one, that means everybody - including the Spartan who Buck never wants to see again, the one who committed the ultimate betrayal of trust....

Fantastic

Forbeck at his best with a fantastic cast of characters and a journey that kept me engaged to the very last sentence. Scott Bricks narration is a perfect match for Forbecks intense dialogue and action. People call video game novels trash fiction, Bad Blood proves them wrong. Please get Matt writing more Halo Universe stories. He gets it. I could listen to Mr Brick narrate a cool book. Bravo!

A MUST READ for Alpha-9 fans!!!

If you read New Blood this is a must read. While New Blood was a great story I would say this is even better, though you MUST reed New Blood to fully enjoy this book. It kept me interested all the way through and had a great ending. After listening to both Alpha-Nine books It would be awesome to have them all together along with blue team in the next game instead of osiris. This is one of the best if not THE BEST Halo novels so far!

Decent Story With a Side of Beating a Dead Horse

I listened to both this book and New Blood, the book before this one. The book itself is a sequel but seems to forget that when it's being told. It tells you right up front in the first chapter, "For more on these events, see file: New Blood." That would be a fine reminder if half the book didn't make it pointless by going over and over ground that was covered in the first book. The author spent way too much time going over old ground and beating the grudge to death OVER AND OVER throughout the book. We get it. He was betrayed. Move on. Honestly, the story was decent aside from that. I liked that it filled people in on what had happened in Halo 5 so that they understood the set up (as opposed to those who simply expected this to be a linear anti-covenant/insurrection story). If you haven't read the first and want to jump into the story mid way through and be able to get it all, this is the perfect book for you. For me, not so much. I've read 3 Matt Forbeck books so far and of those 3, I've really liked 1 and had to push my way through 2. I'm willing to listen to a book by him one more time before I write him off as just a "meh" writer who managed to score a slot writing for a huge franchise.

Another good Halo story, just not a great value

There's not a lot to say about it. The grudge was overblown and hammy and it needed more story (as in I felt that I didn't get my money's worth for is length and lack of story substance). This one felt like it should have been a novella at most but I still enjoyed it.

A great read for fans.

Quite a bit of this may be lost on readers who started with Buck's story. But the writer and the narrator have both improved significantly since the last book in the series. It's a fun, pulp-scifi jaunt after the events of Halo 5, and it's a ton of fun.

Well done <3.

Love it.

First Audio book I try and I totally loved it. The book is so well-writen you can say that the author knows the Halo Universe. The voice actor knows how to transmit what he's reading and is totally engaging. The story... I am in love with it. So amazing moments, you really feel inside the Halo Universe. I can't really find the words to use. Excellent book to enjoy.
