Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. Story
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs - once thought of almost as gods - were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Publisher's Summary
The final instalment of Robin Hobb’s Sunday Times best-selling series The Rain Wild Chronicles.
Dragon blood and scales, dragon liver and eyes and teeth. All required ingredients for medicines with near-miraculous healing powers. The legendary blue dragon Tintaglia is dying of wounds inflicted by hunters sent by the Duke of Chalced, who meanwhile preserves his dwindling life by consuming the blood of the dragon’s poet Selden Vestrit.
If Tintaglia perishes, her ancestral memories will die with her. And the dragons in the ancient city of Kelsingra will lose the secret knowledge they need to survive. Their keepers immerse themselves in the dangerously addictive memory-stone records of the city in the hope of recovering the Elderling magic that once allowed humans and dragons to co-exist. In doing so they risk losing their own identities, even their lives.
And danger threatens from beyond the city, too. For war is coming: war between dragonkind and those who would destroy them.
Critic Reviews
"In today’s crowded fantasy market Robin Hobb’s books are like diamonds in a sea of zircons." (George R. R. Martin)
"Hobb is superb, spinning wonderful characters and plots from pure imagination." (Conn Iggulden)
"Hobb is one of the great modern fantasy writers...what makes her novels as addictive as morphine is not just their imaginative brilliance but the way her characters are compromised and manipulated by politics." (The Times)

3 Narrators - 4 book series
Why the actual Fitz can you not get just one narrator for a series? Why is that so hard?!?
If it is difficult - can your not at least ensure the narrator has listened to the previous narrator?
I feel like this narrator had not read the previous books, and certainly hadn’t listened to the previous narrator because her renditions of the characters were completely different.
Couldn’t even pronounce Liveships correctly.

very poor narrator
story is great
narration is terrible - no pauses whatsoever, which leads to very poor immersion:
-no pause when switching between two people in conversation, so difficult to tell who is speaking when
-no pauses at the end of sentences/paragraphs, makes it hard to process the material before the next sentence is already out
-no pauses takes the emphasis away from certain clauses which should otherwise have a lot of impact, makes the story quite dry.
overall very disappointing performance.
I will be avoiding Avita Jay's work like the plague from now on

Annoying. Just annoying.
I love Robin Hobb's books. The Rain Wild Chronicles is the first series which I've 'read' as an audio book. Simply said, these four books each frustrated me. The biggest problem being that there's often no pause at all in between different paragraphs. We're suddenly in a different place, with different characters, doing very different things. It pissed me off every time. It needed a tone or something placed there at the very least. In the books, new paragraphs are on the next line, but there's a two line break when changing location & situation. That should have been picked up by the producer. Lazy! Also I could not stand Rapskal's stupid whimpery voice in this one.

Too many narrator changes
My ONLY complaint with any of Robin Hobbs series is the change of narrator. There were 3 different narrators for this series and I found the change of character voices and accents and the different pronunciation of certain words quite annoying. The story, as with ALL of Robins work, was superb. 🧡

Narration lets it down
Lack of pauses between scene changes was very confusing. Young male voices were not well done - they often seemed expressionless and hushed even when they were supposed to be shouting

Fabulous as always
Robin Hobb has been on my Audible playlist for the last 6 months and I have thoroughly enjoyed every page of it! Can’t say enough good things for her worldmaking skills and the depth of her storytelling.

Bring on Fitz & the Fool
This series is by far the weakest of all in the realm of the elderlings. I expected a tale of dragons and a lost city to be exciting yet nothing really happened to provoke much interest.
The fact that there were 3 different narrators for 4 books was frustrating, don't they listen to previous books before recording. I couldn't keep up with all of the different pronunciations each book, very frustrating.
Now that's over, I'm looking forward to the more interesting and eventful encounter of FitzChivalry Farseer & his Beloved!

Strong Conclusion to an Inconsistent Series
This is a rewarding climax to a series that was saved by books 3 and 4. All the character arcs were rewarding and the development of the political
Intrigue helped the back half of the series.
However, the novels lacked a compelling, or fleshed out antagonist, like the other books in the overall series.
