Publisher's Summary

A side quest adventure in the same world as the best-selling Awaken Online series. This story takes place after the end of Awaken Online: Precipice.

Riley's real-life took a nosedive after her confrontation with Alex. The girls at school torment her and she feels powerless to do anything about it. At the same time, Jason has mysteriously disappeared, sending only a terse cryptic message to Riley and Frank.

With some time on her hands and with her frustration with her real-life reaching a breaking point, Riley decides to strike off on her own in-game. Her goal is to investigate the quest related to the strange bow she discovered in the dungeon north of Peccavi. Yet events quickly spiral out of control as she discovers that the bow's former owner has set her along a path of vengeance - with an entire city hanging in the balance.

    Story
    "A nice interlude"

While I'm still aching to know how Jason is going to get out of the trouble from the end of the last book (that question isn't answered here), it's interesting to see things from Riley's perspective.

While I was a little frustrated with how Riley seems to be a natural leader in-game and docile in real life, I understood her feelings and actions.

The narrator is good, but something I can't put my finger on keeps me from giving him five stars. Regardless, I got hooked into this story fast and it wasn't easy to stop listening when life got in the way. A worthwhile read/listen while you wait for the next installment.

    "my God .....so friggin good"

this is how you do a side story. Travis does it again he helps expand the world and build up the side characters. I would love to see another book about Riley, she's a great character and you rarely see female protagonists in this genre. great job

    Story
"No Jason, Riley is a poor replacement "

this book is optional in the series nothing of note happens. Riley gets bullied more fights back but doesn't get vengence. a bloody nose is a piss poor punishment for what they did, despite the fact it goes super deep in "vengeance". Riley is a annoying character before and after the book.

    Story
    "A fun series continues "

This third volume contains a side-plot rather than continuing with the previous main character, but is every bit as entertaining as the main plotline, and it does have some tie-ins. The series isn't a literary masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination, but it is well written, and the universe and its technology holds together, and it has some interesting takes on artificial intelligence, and how our current technology may mature over the next 20 years or so. The characters also ring true. Likely this is targeted at a young adult audience, but that doesn't mean middle-aged technophiles can't enjoy it.

    Story
"Book puts Bagwell's weaknesses on full display"

David Stifel's performance is done no service by the material. It is dry, stale, wooden and predictable, and so are the characters.
Bagwell has an issue with characters and dialogue.
his character's are paper thin archetypes with no true life to them, giving out tons (and you feel all of it) of exposition.
His background characters are so hard to slog through, and this book is 90% background characters.
proof that the series is strongest when the focus is on the AI unit and the mystery of what it can do, because the vignettes before each chapter do give focus, clarity, and build the world itself as a force to be reckoned with. while this book has no grit to it the characters or the in game story.
Read if you're a completionist, otherwise skip

    "Well done"

This book was a focus on Riley, a secondary character in the first two books. Frank was around but Jason and the AI were not...

A great story to accompany the first two books.
