Publisher's Summary

Since time immemorial, humans have worshipped the gods they call Fhrey, truly a race apart: invincible in battle, masters of magic, and seemingly immortal. But when a god falls to a human blade, the balance of power between humans and those they thought were gods changes forever. Now only a few stand between humankind and annihilation: Raithe, reluctant to embrace his destiny as the God Killer. Suri, a young seer burdened by signs of impending doom. And Persephone, who must overcome personal tragedy to lead her people. The Age of Myth is over; the time of rebellion has begun.

True fantasy fiction

As any good fantasy series should do, the first book makes a sound introduction of characters, plot and leaves us with a pleasant sense of resolve, but also, anticipation for what is to come.

The characters are engaging and and gain more depth as the story progresses. Little unexpected moments of humour made me laught out loud at times.

The audio does justice to the story and characters are easily identifiable. Well paced and tone is on point.

My only gripe would be that some plot points that drive the story are fairly transparent, however, this could be due to my own familiarity with the genre and they still played in nicely to the overall story.

Great Story

Stumbled across this on the top 50 free books. Knowing the narrator is very good, I gave it ago. So glad I did. I'm now hooked on the series.

Epic

Up there with all the greats. Flawlessly written and unputdownable.
Definitely worth a read or a listen, you won’t regret it.

Thank you...

For writing this book! What's more, thank you for writing so many in this series! I finished my other favourite series, the Cycle of Galand, also narrated by the same awesome narrator; Tim Gerard Reynolds, and the last one was just released. I was so depressed thinking I'd have to wait another 2 years for the next one in the series before I found another good read... and then by luck, I found this!!! I love it! It's brilliant, I love the characters, I love the detail in it, the way you have to pay attention to all the little hints and details in it. I was thoroughly engrossed from start to finish and what's ever better, is there is another 6 books to go baha!

Awesome. Again, THANK YOU!!!

Fast-paced, edge of your seat reading!

Terrific story- well-written and wonderfully narrated. There are some great characters here and I was rooting for them from very early on. This book sets up for the war we all know about from the Royce and Hadrian books and you'll wonder how this David versus Goliath story will turn out. Once done you'll move straight on to the next one!

Great first book, edge of my seat by the end

I've left this review before but it seems to have been removed.
Michael has many books but this was my first read from his world, and it didn't disappoint.
The races are reminiscent of the tropes but honestly it's so subtle it took me a while to realise Frey were Elves rather than a type of god similar to Greek mythology.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, well done.
It terms of vocal performance it was fine, it lacks character distinction a lot but I see there are dramatised versions that offer this for anyone who values this.

Such enjoyable stories!

As someone who doesn't normally read prequels, I'm so glad I gave this a go, I completely loved it. Since knowing how a story ends I find I couldn't care less about what happens before hand, but this book is a solid stand alone story set in the familiar, yet made interestingly different, world painted for us in the Ryria Revelations. As in Ryria, here too will you be immersed in a thoroughly exciting and enjoyable story, lovable characters and A++ narration. You will not regret buying this book, but I suggest anyone who hasn't listened to Ryria Revelations, then do so first 'cause the world and it's "vibe" or atmosphere is more set-out for us there. This author and narrator make such an awesome team, great work!!!

fantasy at it's best,

I didn't think I would like it as much as I did.
I love it.
It has bit of everything in it, even the performance was excellent.
