Publisher's Summary

A Horus Heresy Novel

Censured at the Council of Nikea for his flagrant use of sorcery, Magnus the Red and his Legion retreat to their homeworld to continue their use of the arcane arts in secret.

Listen to it because

One of the most tragic tales of the entire Horus Heresy unfolds as the Thousand Sons are brought low by their relentless quest for knowledge. Magnus is sure that he knows better than the Emperor – but isn't that what caused Horus to fall as well?

The story

Censured at the Council of Nikea for his flagrant use of sorcery, Magnus the Red and his Thousand Sons Legion retreat to their homeworld of Prospero to continue their use of the arcane arts in secret. When the ill-fated primarch foresees the treachery of Warmaster Horus and warns the Emperor with the very powers he was forbidden to use, the Master of Mankind dispatches fellow primarch Leman Russ to attack Prospero itself. But Magnus has seen more than the betrayal of Horus – and the witnessed revelations will change the fate of his fallen Legion, and its primarch, forever.

Damn good book but..

This book is so great, the story was well thought off and executed brilliantly. I loved every chapter in this book and I loved finding out about Magnus and his legion and even about the legion of the wolves.

My only issue is with the narrator. I wish there was an alternative performer I could listen to as this book deserves the best to bring the characters to life.

An amazing story about a great tragedy.

Excellent book. I found the narration let it down a bit, not for lack of effort just an unsuitable voice for big boi space marines and a beastly Primarch.

Shame

Great story and a good addition to a fascinating series. Unfortunately ruined by a poor performance thag utterly fails to bring any characters or personality to the story. Couldn't get through it all due to monotonous tone and the lack or distinction in character voice.

Heard good things, but can't judge the story. Have given 3 stars.
Narrator is intolerable.

excellent story, terrible narration

The tone and speed of the narrator are quite a challenge to get around. Sample before buying and I recommend running at 0.95% or slower as the narrator rushes, particularly during action scenes.

the story is absolutely worth it though. I had no particular interest in the thousand sons legion before this and I adored it. I'll be skipping straight to Prospero Burns.

Also has some of the rare Warhammer LGBT representation which, though brief, is incredibly refreshing and I thought would be worth mentioning as I listen during pride.

great story, subpar narration

loved the story, but the narrator left a lot to be desired, difficult to follow his dialogue, emphasizing every word does the opposite and left evwrything as a constant drone of growling.

Magnus the Waffler

The monologues….
The jumping straight into legion breakdown…..
And voices, sadly fluctuated a little too much.

First hiccup in my 12 book journey so far (of the heresy, all of Cain and Eisenhorn and 1-11, loved)
Perhaps just not for me.

Chumps

Shallow writing and voice acting made all the characters seem like absolute chumps ignoring the obvious
