Wise beyond words

This book is life changing for anyone with ADHD. It is uniquely compelling whilst not being new-age. Parental attunement and the lack thereof contribute significantly to ADHD and this causal factor is also the path to healing both brain and heart.

ADHD by an ADHDer & doctor

A unique and much needed book about ADD/ADHD from the lived experience of ADHD in combination with the professional knowledge of a medical practitioner. Dr Maté identifies the holes in the medical paradigm and approach towards ADHD and offers insightful information and guidance. Essential listening for parents of ADHD kids and ADHD adults themselves.

Excellent book. Really gets you to understand how ADD originates, works and feels

This book has helped me understand how ADD affects my life, my husband’s and my 11 year old daughter. I feel now that I can be much more effective when dealing with everyday issues in relation with my family and with myself. Also to be able to be self compassionate and be compassionate with them rather than judgemental.

Excellent book

Excellent, well-written book that covers a lot of ground, including a role of attachment and presents ADD a lot as an attachment disorder, which I find helpful, but others may argue for distinguishing them, which, in fact is often hard to do and this book does a good job at integrating rather then distinguishing the two disorders. On the whole this is a well-balanced book when it comes to bio-psycho-social-spiritual formulation. I truly enjoyed Daniel Mate’s voice and narration, one of the best l have heard on Audible books. Unfortunately, some of the Audible books are narrated by jarring, unpleasant voices that my ADD brain absolutely cannot stand even when I'm genuinely interested in the book itself. Daniel’s voice did a true service to this beautifully written book.

SO HELPFUL! Best ADD book ever!

I'm a.52 year old, suffering from treatment-resistant depression for 30 years, just in recent years diagnosed with ADHD (inattentive). I didn't take ADHD seriously and my counselor recommended this book. It is narrated by the author's son. It helps both parents and adult sufferers. The author is a doctor who also had a late diagnosis of ADD. I feel this may be my breakthrough.

everybody should read this book!

I work with the public, not in the way most folk do so I thought by listening to this book I'd realise a better understanding of the individuals I meet. Now that I'm done I have a better understanding of myself and my own failings. Really is a book everyone should make time for!

The knowledge you gain from this book is invaluable.

Such a relief to know that the cause of ADD can be addressed. I only wish the methods needed to facilitate the brain rewiring itself were more clear and concise and less woven into the overall narrative. If you decide to listen to this book, have a pen and paper handy to make notes when the processes are mentioned. Ultimately, you will need a family based therapist to help you rewire if you or your child has ADD, and he explains why.

Fantastic book

I can't recommend this book highly enough, as with all Dr. Mate's books he has mixed science with extremely readable material.

I have in quick succession read all of Dr. Mate's books, each one of them has been really illuminating and given me a great deal of food for thought.

The narration by Daniel Mate is flawless and just adds to the satisfying experience of listening to the book.

Confirmed my Self Diagnosis after listening

Brought the audiobook so I could listen whilst I walked. Could relate to the author as he has ADD as well and had his own personal anecdotes and perspectives Virtually all of the symptoms I could relate to.Some to a lesser degree as over decades I've used different techniques to lessen its impact on me.

Previously I was chunking together pieces of the puzzle blindfolded. Now I've finally have been shown the picture of the jigsaw box.

I saw myself in this book

I started listening to this audio book a few months before my own diagnosis. It took me 3-4 months to finish. Not because it was boring, but just general procrastination (quite fittingly). I want to say that ADHD is not named well. It's not really a disorder - at least to me. It's a type of brain that is relatively common, that ill-fits the kind society we live in and has survived well because its usually the brain most likely innovates, creates and drives forward humanity. The book was a goldmine of information for what I needed to hear. As someone who- now knows- has Inattentive ADHD, and hopes to have a family some day, I can't recommend it enough. It talks about not just having and managing ADD/ADHD lifestyle but how it can manifest and be amplified by an emotionally starved childhood. I'd like to recommend another book to go with this called 'Driven by Distraction' if you've not read that, it is more direct and can help you manage your life.
