About this listen

Once Upon a Time,
There was a king who passed.
He left behind two sons,
one beloved and one outcast.
The older of the two was set to take the throne,
but before he could, he had to find a queen to call his own.
The younger one was known to be unruly and unhinged.
The chosen queen was warned to keep far away from him.
Beautiful and cunning, in the light is where she stayed.
But late at night, it was the shadowed lands in which she played.
Mistakes were made and secrets forged;
forgetting duty and her sense.
And while the new king had her hand,
her heart belonged to the scarred prince.

Scarred is a dark royal romance. It is not a retelling, and it is not fantasy. It has mature situations and themes which may be considered triggers for some. Listener discretion is advised.

I really enjoyed this book! One of the darker stories I've read with the villan being the leading man and you kinda love him even though he does terrible things.
Thought the way she brought the lion king aspects in was clever without it being a retelling, even down to the names. The narrator for Tristan sounded just like the Disney Scar but I thought sounded a bit old for a supposedly 26 year old.
Overall was a good listen, would recommend :)

Really enjoyed this!

This book is dark and spicy. Everyone is evil and trying to out do the next person, all shaped around fated love. Lion king vibes with spice and vengeance.

Dark undertones of the lion king

This was surprisingly good. I read Hooked and enjoyed it but it was pretty c grade grade writing (but I still liked it). But this one was just stronger. Sarah isn’t just a placeholder and actually has a personality and Tristan is a pretty compelling sadist, I definitely found myself rooting for him and being comfortable about it. The plot is pretty predictable but it’s based on the lion king/Hamlet so if you’re familiar with those, you’ll see a lot of it coming. The end has a sweet twist to it. Bonus - the lead guy sounds kind of like Jeremy Irons, which I suspect is not an accident.

The writer has also improved. It’s smoother writing than the first in the series. I guess people improve their craft as they go on, and she definitely has.

It’s pretty smutty (not necessarily a criticism) but the story outside of that is actually worth sticking around for. If you liked the first one I really think you might like this one more.

Way better than expected

Love it, glad someone has decided that happily ever after isn’t all mush n sunshine. Love how it’s been reversed so the “ villain” get a great ending

Beautiful twist of original story

Audio was very good. I enjoyed their performance of these characters. At first I questioned the accents/tone - but it did suit the characters. (Paul’s voice definitely took my mind back to scar from the lion king).

Story= I didn’t think I would like this as much as I did.

It’s a lion king fractured retelling following the ‘scarred prince’ in a 1910ish monarchy where he falls for the woman arranged to marry his brother- and of course he wants to take over the kingdom.

This is a slow burn. It’s a little bit dark and a little bit spicy towards the end.

Villain gets the girl. Lion king fractured retelling.

This book had me in a chokehold the entire time. The pacing of the story kept me entertained and the characters were complex. The spice? I have no words just listen. Booktok girlies u need this RIGHT NOW. The voice acting was so animated too it honestly played like a movie in my head. Too good. Emily Mcintire the woman that you are.

My friend read this and said it was one of the best in Emily’s books. I listened to this via audio and I really struggled to get into the book because of the female narrator. I listened to a book she had done previously and struggled to get through it as well.
Apart from the narration, I quite enjoyed the storyline between Sara and Tristan. I couldn’t quite work out how modern the story was with Tristan being tattooed and the mechanisms to create tattoos but then there were horse drawn carriage? Slight inconsistencies.
I did like the budding romance between Sara and Tristan and some of their scenes together were hot.

Better read

Loved everything about this story! This is the second story by Emily McIntire that I have listened to and definitely won’t be the last. I loved the characters and found the story so easy to lose myself in. I was totally engrossed! The performances were top notch by both Paul Woodson and Ella Lynch. I could listen to them all day .. and did!!

Loved this!
