Publisher's Summary

As "Scarecrow" Schofield watches his mission turn into a bloodbath, he realises he has been tricked - and that now he's become the prey rather than the predator. For a shadowy consortium of staggering power and wealth has included his name on a list of 15 targets to be eliminated without fail by 12 noon that same day. Now, every high-powered bounty hunter on the planet is on his trail, while he must simultaneously track down the perpetrators of a conspiracy about to reduce many of the major cities of the world to ashes.

From Arctic Russia to the Afghan border, to France's Atlantic Coast, to a speed-of-light conflict over the Suez Canal, every form of ultra-tech weaponry comes into play in a spellbinding action drama unfolding within a mere 24 hours.

Ups and Downs

I absolutely love Matthew Reilly. However, this is not his best as there are points in it that are so over kill, even for him (aka. a car flipping then scrapping to only land and keep going with nothing broken) that it's hard not cringe at the ridiculousness. Otherwise, still loyal and worth listening to apart from one or two points :-).... the speaker did very well though

Rubbish narration

Narration for this story was rubbish. An Englishman trying to do American accents is appalling. If I could get the refund button to work I would. Will always check who the narrator is from now on. Matthew Reilly rocks - it’s a shame it’s spoilt by the poor narrator.

WOW

Explosive action drips from every minute of this audiobook.

Listened to this in the basement at the office before work - you know the kind of audiobook.

It is not hard for the author to make the technology live inside his words. If you like truly world-wide action then this is a great read.

I am a huge fan of the authors and can not tell you the joy at finding his audiobooks!

An fast paced adventure

What made the experience of listening to Scarecrow the most enjoyable?

The story starts with a bang and never stops. The action moves from one scene to the next without having those quiet moments that can sometime stall a story or cause it to slow down.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mother has to be my favourite. It's great to see a female character so unapologeticly badass and genuinely as useful to the story as the males, and not a love interest who's only purpose is to be saved by the 'hero'.

Which character – as performed by Steven Pacey – was your favourite?

I couldn't pick a favourite. The characters were all equally as good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Epic!

I read this book when I was younger and it immediately got me hooked on Matthew Reilly Stories. I barely put down my phone when I had downloaded the audio book version!

Good fun, don't expect to a masterpiece.

Having read a number of books by Reilly I picked this especially for a long drive where I knew that I would not want anything too taxing that would be easy to listen to and follow. In that respect this was just the trick, action packed with a simple, if somewhat farfetched central premise. The reading was excellent with the character acting varied and consistent. Just don't think about the varied plot holes, amazing coincidences and and you will likely enjoy this... Just don't expect to remember the story in a few weeks.

non-stop action romp

Anyone who has read Matthew Reilly before will know what they are in for with Scarecrow, the name of his all-action American hero. Don't expect too much in the way of character development or detailed description - just hold tight while the rollercoaster accelerates to top speed and stays there until the very end. Undemanding, thoroughly enjoyable and well worth considering for your holiday read!
